John Patrick Moore is one the few actors playing an actor on the buzzwothry LA Complex that airs Tuesdays on The CW at 9p and I spoke to him about his role of Connor Lake.
Moore plays an actor who has moved to LA from Australia and just landed his first big role and that is all he has in common with Connor. As he told me when he was describing his character, the major difference between the two is he doesn’t “suffer the same internal struggles that Connor does. He’s a real mess.”
So even though that part is fake, is the way the world of Hollywood is portrayed on the show real? This is what he told me, “I think it is very realistic. We get to cover such a huge amount of ground in just the six episodes that have been shot already to a really great extent.” He added, “It doesn’t really back off from the problems and the struggles that those people are going through.†If you have been watching the show, you know they are struggling with paying their bills, drinking, love and trying to do what they love even though there are so few jobs in entertainment. What you see is what you get in LA with this show and Moore knows because he has experienced what Connor has gone through to find work as an actor here.
So did Moore always want to be an actor, when I asked what else he does creatively he answered that question for me. He said, “I never wanted to be an actor. I did it because I changed schools a lot as a kid. I think the ninth grade, I went to a new school, and they said you have to drama and you have to do art and I was like OK.” Remembering fondly he added, “Fortunately I had a really terrific drama teacher, who became a bit of a mentor for me and helped me realize that I really loved it. Now I don’t want to do anything else.” And there is nothing else we would want to see him do.
So tune in every Tuesday night at 9p to see an Australian actor play an Australian actor on television. He is so believable, you won’t be able to tell he is acting on the most addictive show on television.
