Jimmy Kimmel is going to host the Emmys this year, so it is only natural that he would be on the cover of this month’s
emmy Magazine. Besides posing like a teenage girl, he talked about what shows he was giddy about when he was younger. His shows of choice were, “Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, and Cheers. There were also two shows in syndication we loved: Fernwood 2Night and Soap.” He then added that Fred Willard influenced his humor, “But most of the influence comes from my family. I have a very funny family.†Anyone who watches Jimmy Kimmel Live knows that is true about his family since most of them are on it from time to time and they make us laugh on the show.
So know we know what shows influenced his humor, which late night host would cause him lie in bed on his stomach with his feet up in the air and gush over? He said, “I loved David Letterman so much that I would draw his face on my book covers at school. When I turned sixteen, I had a Late Night with David Letterman birthday cake. But it never occurred to me there would be other people hosting late-night talk shows besides Johnny [Carson] and Dave. And I certainly didn’t think of myself as potentially one of them. I had no direction and very little common sense. I just had an urge to do funny things.†Thankfully he had that urge because my late nights are so much better with him on TV during that time!
Although he will be doing primetime specials this week before the NBA finals on ABC, so check him out at an earlier time and then again at midnight.
UPDATE: The Stanley Cup Champions the LA Kings will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight at midnight on ABC.
