A few months ago, it was reported that the Saw franchise was in trouble because of a disagreement between the Twisted Pictures producers, Oren Koules and Mark Burg. But nothing was confirmed.
Today, Blumhouse announced that they bought the franchise and will share it with Lionsgate, who has been distributing it since the beginning.
“The Saw franchise has defined a generation of horror, and its cultural impact continues to grow, making this a strategic investment in one of the most recognizable and successful genre properties of the last two decades. But what really excites me about bringing Saw to Blumhouse is having James and Leigh back in the fold and to see the future of the franchise come to life with their guidance,” Blumhouse CEO and founder Blum said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Since the deal was just finalized, there is no word if and when Saw XI will be released. The film was reportedly delayed due to the producers not getting along. I wonder if we will eventually get Jigsaw vs MEGAN?
