OLIVER Stone has told friends that Tom Cruise won the lead role in "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989) by telling Stone he was born on July 3 (1962), and that it was karma for him to get the part. Stone was struck by the coincidence but later regretted casting Cruise when the movie, despite raves, disappointed at the box office. The Entertainment Weekly Web site also reports Stone was disappointed that Cruise didn’t talk about his birthday while he was promoting the picture, apparently fearful it would lead reporters to his awkward real last name – Mapother.

I hated this movie and every movie that I saw by Oliver Stone, so I finally swore off of him after The Doors.
Born on the Fourth of July was the movie that started my dislike of Tom Cruise, I finally swore off of him after that peice of sh!t called Eyes Wide Shut. A few years later my friend made me watch Vanilla Sky and I swore in blood to never ever see another Tom Cruise movie!
