August 17th, 2009 under Bones

When season 4 of Bones ended, Booth was waking up from his coma after brain surgery to remove a tumor and we were left wondering how that would change things for him and the show. Well I recently did a set visit during the TCAs and we learned a little more what we can expect from the upcoming season that premieres on Fox on September 17th from the stars and producers Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz and the creator Hart Hanson and producer Stephen Nathan.
But before we catch up with season 5, let’s go back to the beginning and find out how Emily Deschanel became the Bones to David Boreanaz’s Booth because she almost didn’t get the role according to David.

Well it definitely developed from the moment the two of us met. I mean look at us; this is the best twosome in television I think as far as relationships of characters are concerned. When I walked into the room and we were testing, there were two other girls. There was this one girl who we all pretty much thought was the part but when Emily and I worked the scene there was definitely some magic that happened in the room and when you are fortunate enough to catch that lightning in a bottle, you don’t really have a sense of where its going to go or how its going to transform. So you work on it and we have been working on our chemistry since day one. We continually work on each episode and each moment in each scene to develop that chemistry and in order to develop that chemistry you have to trust the other person your working with. With that trust comes a lot of things that you can’t really share with other people because it’s between the two of us and I cherish that. She is not only someone I work with but she has become part of my family that I can look at and say I enjoy the moments I had with her because they lead to me becoming a better person and in doing so I learn about her, I learn about myself and hence we get chemistry. I think that chemistry has developed in the last four seasons in a very strong way.

I think that their chemistry has been there since day one of the show and it does get stronger with each episode. Seriously their chemistry is some of the best pairing ever in television history. So with all that went down in the season finale what can we expect from these two in the upcoming season? Will their connection grow stronger or will it all be one-sided? Here is what they previewed for us:

Emily Deschanel: We did end up in bed together and it was in our minds and that changes our relationship and you will see that going into season 5. That changes our relationship for good. Basically he wakes up and you don’t know whether it was his coma or my books or both…in some way. The fact that it was in our minds does in fact change your
relationship and you will see it changes out relationship even more than just being in our minds.
Hart Hanson: You look at each other differently and it’s quite evident especially in the first episode you see the relationship has evolved because of that experience.
David Boreanez: Well I’m just trying to get my memory back, so that’s probably what you’re seeing..

Yes you read that right, Booth is trying to get his memory back. In fact he told us there is an episode where he has to buy a book Plumbing for Dummies because he can’t remember how to do plumbing in his own kitchen. I can’t wait to see that episode because it sounds like it is going to lead to a sweet interaction between the two.
BTW Emily let us know that the day we were there, she was shooting a scene that involved another book and sex…

EMILY DESHENEL: I just did a scene with Camille Saroyan played by Tamara Taylor in which she is trying to learn about teaching her adopted daughter about sex, and.. Wait can I say that?
HART HANSON: yes
ED: And so she has a book with.. Wait can I say this?
HART HANSON: yes
ED: Okay sorry I never know what I can and cant say about it. She has a book with a cartoon penis in it.

I didn’t say the sex book was for Booth and Bones, did I? Another fun episode to look forward to because I like the dynamic of Camille trying to raise her late ex’s teenage daughter.
Here is another tidbit they talked to us about. What about all those rotating assistants? Will we get a permanent one or will they keep switching out? Good news they will all be returning (as long as their schedules allow them to) and Hart told us we will be getting at least one more this season. I wonder what quirk he or she will bring to Bones. Heck I just can’t wait for Bones to come back on September 17th to see all they told us about and what they didn’t play out. Seriously out of all the shows I watch, Bones is one of the very very few I have to watch live or night of because it is just that good. Unlike the other procedurals this one isn’t predictable and plays out perfectly. Plus the chemistry between the whole cast is really some of the best in television history!!! Yeah I said it again, but it is so true. If you have never seen a single episode of the show, go out and buy or rent the first four seasons before Bones comes back to Fox on September 17th! You will dig this show as much as an archeologist…well you get my drift!
BTW I will post the day of the season premiere what Hart and Stephen Nathan told me after the set visit like are they are afraid of jumping the shark if and when Bones and Brennan hook up???
