April 17th, 2026 under Chris Meloni

In 1999, Christopher Meloni was cast in the role of a lifetime as Eliott Stabler on Law & Order: SVU. But in 2011, he decided to part ways with the police procedural due to failed contract negotiations.

Ten years later, he returned to the role with his own spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which aired on NBC for the first four seasons and Peacock for one. Yesterday, Peacock announced that they  would not be renewing the show for another season. So fans were hoping that would mean he would be returning to Special Victims Unit next season.

However, this morning, the actor posted a grim message on social media. “Hey, everyone. I just saw they announced that OC, Organized Crime, won’t be coming back. So I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans, who not only helped to give the character of Elliott Stable life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back,” he said trying to hold back the tears. “Good ride. It was a good ride. I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride. But thank you. You helped give me a career I never dreamed of, nearly 17 odd years.”

And with that, it sounds like he has moved on from this role forever, and we will never got to see what would have happened if Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler would have gotten together romantically.

How do you feel about the end of Stabler??? Do you think he is making a mistake for not leaving the door open?
