The good news last week was that Days of our Lives was renewed by NBC for at least 18 months, the bad news was there are going to be a lot of casting cuts. According to
Soap Opera Digest the sand in the hourglass has run out for Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn aka Marlena Evans and John Black.
Executive Producer Ken Corday says, "The couple will be happily reunited after a long period of angst and separation and will be off-screen after January for an unknown period of time. It was a very tough decision to make."
For years I have been wanting Marlena off the show because she annoys me, so I am glad to see her character finally depart. When it comes to Drake, I have only heard nice things about him, so I hope he lands on his feet which I am sure he will!
SOD also reported that Jay Kenneth Johnson aka Philip cleaned out his dressing room after contrats talks broke down and it is rumored that DOOL is already looking to recast his character.
