Four years ago, the world was shocked when we learned that Prince suddenly passed away. Tonight at 9p, CBS is going to honor him with a 2-hour star-studded tribute concert called Let’s Go Crazy: The GRAMMY Salute to Prince.
The night starts off with Let’s Go Crazy, and it goes crazy from there with help from Beck, Common, Gary Clark Jr., Earth, Wind & Fire, Foo Fighters, H.E.R., Juanes, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Mavis Staples, St. Vincent, Usher, and Susanna Hoffs. Along with all of those names, we will get to see some of his prodigies, Sheila E., Morris Day and the Time, and The Revolution, sing their hits.
It is a night full of surprisingly great performances. Juanes takes us back to 1999, Usher does a high-energy medley, and Foo Fighters does their rockin’ rendition of Darling Nicki. Beck’s Raspberry Berret is the biggest surprise of the night. Sadly, John Legend’s Nothing Compares 2 U is the most disappointing.
One not so good number is OK because there are so many enjoyable other ones. Especially, Mavis Staples, who brings down the house, with The Revolution when they end the night with Purple Rain.
You don’t have to be a Prince fan to love this special. You just have to appreciate good music. That is because you get plenty of it during this music-filled night that does not disappoint. Well, except for the EGOT winner.
