Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn may wind up portraying legendary physicist Albert Einstein for a joint U.S.-Italian TV film production. Penn, 46, is reportedly interested in working with writer/director Liliana Cavani, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Tuesday. The project is a joint effort between the U.S. premium cable TV network HBO and Italy’s RAI state broadcaster, ANSA said. An RAI spokesman said Penn appears enthusiastic about the project. "He’s read the screenplay and he likes it," RAI’s Agostino Sacca told ANSA. Penn’s latest film, "All the Kings Men," opens Friday in U.S. theaters.

Maybe if he was doing the sequel to Young Einstein, I could see him in the role. But not when he is actually portraying him a movie based on actual events, could you see him doing it?

Un-Lucky Louie |

HBO has canceled "Lucky Louie," its first attempt at a traditional three-camera sitcom. The series, starring comedian Louis C.K. as a working-class husband and father, premiered in June to a weak 1.5 million viewers. The season finale was seen by 1.3 million viewers, about on par with its 13-episode season average. By comparison, the third season finale of "Entourage" was seen by 2.5 million viewers. "Louis is an incredible talent and a wonderful partner," said Carolyn Strauss, president of HBO Entertainment, in a statement. "We loved trying our first multicamera show with him, and we look forward to other projects with Louis in the future."

Tivo’s summer 25 most recorded |

Cable TV thrives in the summer months with original programming. Just look at TiVo’s list of the top season pass shows this month. Rescue Me (FX) tops the list, followed by The Closer (TNT) and my personal favorite, Entourage (HBO). Fox also makes a strong showing with Prison Break, So You Think You Can Dance and Bones. But CBS is the only other broadcast network with a show in the top 10 with Big Brother 7.

I only tivo 14 of the 25 shows, you?

Greg Berlanti and Mickey Liddell breakup |
August 4th, 2006 under TV Scripted Prime Time. [ Comments: none ]

Greg Berlanti is going solo. The "Everwood" creator has parted ways with producing partner Mickey Liddell and has renamed his Touchstone TV-based company Berlanti Television. Berlanti has tapped Melissa Berman as president of production at Berlanti TV, which already has set up two projects at ABC. "Eli Stone," a high-concept legal drama, has received a pilot order from the network, and an untitled project from writer Craig Wright has been given a script commitment. The split between Berlanti and Liddell, who worked together since Liddell produced Berlanti’s 2000 indie feature "The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy," is said to be amicable.
Hollywood Reporter
Sorry about all the Everwood related stories today, but I loved that show! BTW Greg Berlanti is one of the best people working in TV today.
