Whoever has been booking the Super Bowl Halftime Shows for CBS should find a new job. First, they screwed up with Coldplay that left us cold. Then they followed it up with Maroon 5, who made us wish we were marooned on an island without them. And now, they gave us The Weeknd.
He was so boring the Kansas City Cheifs’ fans were able to sleep through the rest of the game like their team slept through all four quarters when they didn’t even score one touchdown.
Just One of the Guys’ Joyce Hyser Robinson had the best meme reaction to The Weeknd’s masked dancers. If you never seen the movie, then you should watch it now.
The Weeknd teased that he got plastic surgery on his face, and then shockingly revealed it in his music video for Save Your Tears. It turns out that it was not as bad as what we saw then. However, it still is a big change to what he used to look like. Thankfully, we won’t have to look too closely at it on Sunday because of all of the blinding lights.
Talking about the Super Bowl Halftime Show, he also talked about what we can expect from it. I didn’t listen because I have zero expectations for it. I think it might be even worse than Maroon 5’s performance. At least, they had other artists save their show. The Weeknd is doing it all by himself. He is not a strong enough artist with big enough hits to do that. Even Coldplay knew they needed help.
Are you looking forward to The Weeknd this weekend?
Back in November, when the Recording Academy announced the Grammy noms, The Weeknd did not receive any. He took to social media and whined about it. He said it is because he opted to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show instead of music’s biggest night.
Now that the football game is a little over a week away, he is talking to Billboard about not getting any nominations this year. “I use a sucker punch as an analogy,” The Weeknd told them. “Because it just kind of hit me out of nowhere. I definitely felt…I felt things. I don’t know if it was sadness or anger. I think it was just confusion. I just wanted answers. Like, ‘What happened?’ We did everything right, I think. I’m not a cocky person. I’m not arrogant. People told me I was going to get nominated. The world told me. Like, ‘This is it; this is your year.’ We were all very confused.”
Even though he says he is not arrogant or cocky, he came off and is coming off that way. How many actors and musicians were told that they were shoe-ins for nominations and didn’t get it. Unlike him, they didn’t cry like babies when it didn’t happen.
The singer says he is over it, but he also says, “Look, I personally don’t care anymore.” Then he added, “I have three Grammys, which mean nothing to me now, obviously. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I want the Grammy!’ It’s just that this happened, and I’m down to get in front of the fire, as long as it never happens again.
“I suck at giving speeches anyways,” he continued. “Forget awards shows.”
And I say forget him. Between the advertisers pulling out of the Super Bowl and CBS choosing him to perform, I think I am going to skip the game this year. I can’t think of a reason to watch because, for me, those are the only two reasons to tune in.
