Seconds before Bobby Campo snuck in to watch himself in The Final Destination at the Warner Bros premiere of the film that is out now, he talked about to me about the hit franchise and his role in the #1 movie!
When I asked him if he was a fan of the Final Destination series, he told me, “I snuck in to the first one as a wee one. So I love these movies. They’re great. They take your everyday fears and they put them right in front of you, in your lap.” He sure isn’t kidding, especially in this one because it was done in 3D and that really adds to the feel of the movie.
Campo plays Nick O’Bannon, the person in this Final Destination who gets the premonition before the mass deadly accident and saves his friends and a few other people before the killer crash at the race track takes place. Well he saves them for a short time anyways because as we know death doesn’t like when anyone messes with his plans.
I think that Campo is the best one in the role since Devon Sawa got the vision in first one. In this movie like the last 3, not only is he trying to save his friends, but he also trying to save a bunch of strangers who are all ahead of him on death’s list. Will he be able to break the chain and save himself or will he succumb to death’s plan? You are just going to have to see the movie to find out. Plus you are going to want to see the escalator death scene he was talking about, because it is one of the many awesome kills in the movie. And in this one not all deaths are as they seem…
BTW you really have to listen to the interview above because he is accent is so endearing!
It is very rare these days that there are three good movies out there to see at the same time and this weekend that was just the case! The Final Destination, Inglourious Basterds and Halloween 2 were the top 3 movies for the weekend according to the LA Times. Warner Bros’ FD4 brought in $28.3 million whose total was aided by being screened in 3D in over half the theaters it was shown in. Not far behind were The Weinstein Company’s Inglourious Basterds that added $20 million to its total of $73.8 million domestically and Rob Zombie’s H2 made $17.4 million which was over $2 million more than it cost to make it. Not bad at all!
Seriously all three movies are must-sees, so if you haven’t seen any of the three yet go out on this hot day and enjoy watching them in air conditionered theater!!! What better way to spend a hot day then with a really enjoyable flick!
Craig Perry, who produced all 4 Final Destinations talked to me about what might be the final one in the franchise at the Warner Bros premiere for the movie that is out now. When it comes to The Final Destination, I think they might have saved the best for last…if it really is the last?
What makes this FD4 so different than the other 3 is this one include 3-D. Craig told me how adding the effect changed the feel of the series, “Working in 3-D is really fun, it’s really interesting to apply to a movie like Final Destination….It’s not just about character, it’s not just about dialogue, it’s not just about the suspense; it’s about making the audience feel like they are literally living that moment, they are immersed in the scene.” Seriously he is not kidding you really feel immersed in the scenes. Final Destination is my favorite horror franchise in the last 10 years largely because the deaths are so slow and so suspenseful and the way they played out in this one they are even more so because of the 3-D effect. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat covering my eyes throughout most of the movie because the way things are jumping off the screen at you. It totally freaked me out, but in a really good way. Saying that I had to ask him how they come up with all the freaking awesome deaths in the series and here is what he told me, “The death sequences really do stand out because we set them arenas you or I might find ourselves in…our bathrooms, our kitchen, maybe a grocery store and if you can take the mundane and invest it with a real sense of malevolence, you have the opportunity to create a sequence that will absolutely be a show stopper.” The opening premonition in this one is a real showstopper. It is the the most gruesome and spine tingling one of them all that you are so full of excitement watching as each person will die only to be saved for a short while…unless they can break death’s chain. This multiple death scene that sets it all off takes place at a NASCAR event and after seeing this movie, there is no way you can get me to go to a race. Which is exactly what Craig was talking about when he said they were creating sequences that are real showstoppers and check out the interview above to see which other deaths he considered the ones he remembered most. I have to say it is appropriate that opening death sequence took place at a racing event because this movie is so fast you feel like your in car on the speedway going over 130 miles an hour from the beginning of the movie until the credits.
Not being spoilerish, but there was also a 3-D movie scene in The Final Destination which was kind of cruel to do the audience, but also quite brilliant! So how did the Final Destination get to the big screen so it could kill off people watching a movie on one? Here is how, “The concept for the original Final Destination was generated by a guy named Jeffrey Reddick. And he actually worked at New Line, the studio that released all these movies. He was an employee. He came up with it based on a failed X-Files script that he wrote and he said I could make this into a feature.” And the rest is movie history. In short, X-Files loss was our gain, but for how many more films?
Is this really the last one? I just had to find out if there is any hope we might be able to get a fifth one??? And here is what Craig told me, “If we have an opportunity to make another movie, it will only be because the audience had so much fun with this one that we have earned the right to talk about it. And I hope we have that right.” I can tell you I had so much fun watching it last night, I say hands down they earned the right to talk about it. So run out and see The Final Destination this weekend for a movie that will frighten you with suspenseful and gruesome gory deaths. We really have to let them know we are not ready to see death stop taking those who thought they could cheat him.
But before we get a fifth one what is up for this producer whose hand I just had to shake after interviewing him? He is working on The Pet for Disney and The Seminar for CBS Films. I will be there on day one for both films!!!
Thank you so very much to Cynthia at Warner Bros for inviting me to cover the premiere and Monica for having an extra ticket so I could see the movie at it!!!
Tonight was the premiere of Warner Bros’ The Final Destination in Westwood and I was there on the black carpet to talk to the stars before they went in to see the movie that is out tomorrow, August 28th!!! I also saw the movie in 3-D and I think they saved the best for last…if it truly is the last one???
Below are the pictures from the star studded night and starting tomorrow I will post the interviews from the black carpet.
Craig Perry is the man! He is the producer that brought the Final Destination franchise to the big screen and he is my hero. Final Destination is my favorite horror franchise of the new millennium, so it was so cool to talk to him about the movies and find out if there is the slightest chance if we will get a fifth one???
Nick Zano was the last guy I spoke to before I went into the premiere, but will he be the last the one standing in the movie? He also told me what is up for him next.
Bobby Compo told me what it was like to be the character who gets the deadly premonition that saves some people, but only for a short time. Sadly I forgot to ask him about Greek, but we can watch him when the popular ABC Family show is back on Monday at 9p.
Shantel VanSanten plays the girlfriend of Compo and she told me about that and what we can expect from her on One Tree Hill!
The Final Destination was a family affair for Krista Allen, both her son and her are in it. Which one of them if any of them will survive to the credits? She also is making a career change for a little while wait until you hear what it is.
Jackson Walker plays The Cowboy in the movie and he isn’t just playing one in the big screen he is one in real life. Wait until you see the tattoo he showed me to prove that he really is a cowboy!!!
Robert Buckley came out to support his One Tree Hill co-star, Shantel VanSanten and he gave me a preview of what we can expect of him from the show. And yes I asked him if he will keep his shirt on for this show.
Asher Book is starring in Fame, but before he walks that red carpet for that movie he walked this one and told me he is an alumni of the real school.
Chris Divecchio is starring in the movie Dark Moon Rising and he plays a Werewolf and he told me what we can expect from the first of the three movies in the series.
Now back to The Final Destination, I can’t wait for this movie to come out on DVD just so I can watch the death scenes over and over again because just like all the other Final Destinations they are all so awesome as they are slowly played out never knowing how they are going to happen. And this one because it was done on 3-D has so many more cool special effects added to them! So run out and see this movie in the theaters because this really is one of those movies that has to be seen on the big screen first!!!

Although the fourth Final Destination starts out when things turn deadly at a race track, the deaths are still slow and leave you guessing how they are going to happen. And that is the big reason why the Final Destination movies are my favorite horror franchise of the new millennium. You never know how long it is going take and how exactly they are going to happen, but when it death finally comes it is so good and bloody!!! I have never seen a horror movie franchise do it was well as them! And it looks like the new movie is going to keep with the pattern, like death’s… I am so beyond excited to see the 4th one, when it comes out next Friday, August 28th! It seriously looks as good as the other three and dis I mention this one is in 3-D!!!
So rev up your engines to see The Final Destination next Friday, I am already lubed up (is that a racing term?) for this action ride!
