Fame’s remake just got so much worse
December 1st, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: 2 ]

The remake for the 1980 classic movie Fame, that should not be redone just got so much worse after they announced who will be playing the teachers in the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter Megan Mullally, Kelsey Grammer, Charles S. Dutton, Bebe Neuwirth and Debbie Allen have all been cast as teachers.

All five actors have noteworthy performing arts backgrounds. Mullally, who will play a voice instructor, graduated from the School of American Ballet; Grammer, who will play an orchestra conductor, attended Juilliard; Dutton, who will play an acting teacher, went to the Yale School of Drama; and Neuwirth, who will play a dance teacher, has won two Tonys.
And Allen, who played dance teacher Lydia Grant in the original film, will appear in the updated version as Principal Simms.

Their background would be more influential if Mullally and Grammer played what they were trained to do. And Allen should play the dance teacher anything else is just wrong. I like Bebe so I am glad to see her on the big screen. I just wish the movie wasn’t going to the big screen, but going where it deserves…Straight-to-DVD.

Ghostbusters 3 is coming!
September 4th, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Columbia Pictures is getting one step closer to Ghostbusters 3 by hiring two writers according to Variety!

The studio has set “The Office” co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

I hope they also bring back Rick Moranis, Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man and Ray Parker Jr!
It will be interesting if The Office writers can do this movie justice and if the original cast can handle the sequel 20 years after the last one?

NBC bringing The Wonder Years in to the ’80s?
September 3rd, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

NBC is working on updating The Wonder Years with a show called Lost in the ’80s according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, produced by Sony Pictures TV and studio-based Tantamount, is described as “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” meets “The Ice Storm.”
It is considered an ’80s version of “Wonder Years,” the half-hour dramedy set 20 years prior that tackled the social issues and historic events of the late ’60s through the eyes of teen Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage).

Unlike other remakes the show actually hired a writer from The Wonder Years who will hopefully keep the feel of the original. But even with that I still wish the networks would create original shows like the upcoming Fringe on Fox.

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid The Fly is now an Opera
August 27th, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: 2 ]

Be afraid, be very afraid The Fly is being turned in to an Opera by the director who remade the classic in 1986 according to the Daily Star.

Rather than singing, the operatic tenor will be conducting performances. Placido admits at first he was dubious about bringing the film to the stage: “I was a little skeptical about the subject. ‘The Fly?’ I said ‘well, how is it going to be reading for an opera?’ but it just takes somebody that has the experience of composer Howard Shore to write the music, and he has done a score that goes fabulously well with the story.”

While I think it can work as an Opera, I have no intention to see it when it opens here in LA next month. There is just something that seems wrong about it.
Here is one of my all-time most memorable scenes from a movie, and thankfully The Fly: The Opera is not based on this version of the movie! I think if it were Vincent Price would be turning over in grave or haunting someone over it! That seems like his style, no?

They’re destroying Poltergeist
August 19th, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: 2 ]

The Hollywood Reporteris reporting that MGM has found its writer for the latest movie they are destroying, I mean remaking, Poltergeist. I don’t give a sh!t enough to read the story because after I read “Poltergeist remake” on the title I stopped reading any further. Why? Why? Why?
May the writers NOT go in to light and come out. Seriously the original Poltergeist is a long rumored cursed movie, so why remake it and kill off a few people. You know that is just wrong.
Seriously this movie is scary as is, what made it scary was special effects like they used real skeletons in the pool, now they will use CG effects which will take away from it.
Please MGM leave this classic alone and try coming up with something original.
Ha ha, the last laugh is on you because you are still stuck with Tom Cruise’s failure called UA…oh wait the curse has started!
