Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins…Again!!!
July 9th, 2009 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Remo Williams is finally back with another adventure almost 25 years after the first movie according to Risky Biz Blog!!!

Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir wrote the initial batch of “Destroyer” adventure tomes, which centered on Williams, a New Jersey cop convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. Williams is sentenced to the electric chair, but his death is faked so he can be reborn as the vigilante character the Destroyer, joining a top-secret assassin squad set up by the government to operate outside the bounds of the law.
With the help of an Asian assassin named Chiun, Williams also then wreaks havoc on the criminal underworld as well as on those who framed him.

I loved the original movie! I think it is one of the funnest action movies ever with such amazing chemistry between Fred Ward and Joel Grey. While neither actor at this point is signed on for the new Remo Williams. I really hope they reconsider bringing Joel Grey back, especially since now he looks a lot more like Chiun.
BTW if you have never seen Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, rent it now I promise you will love it as much as me. It is the adventure flick for people of all ages and sexes!!!

Now they are turning Baywatch into a movie
July 7th, 2009 under David Hasselhoff/Baywatch, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Yesterday it was announced that the ’80s classic TV show TJ Hooker was being turned into a movie, and now today Variety is reporting that the ’90s international sensation Baywatch was going to the big screen too. Paramount has hired Jeremy Garelick, who just worked his magic on The Hangover to do the same for Baywatch.

DreamWorks paid seven figures for remake rights in 2005 and got a script by Jay Scherick and David Ronn that was heavy on action. Garelick was sent the script do a punch-up. Though he never saw the original TV show and its well-rounded cast, he saw an opportunity to turn it into broad comedy.
“It felt like the template to do a movie that was similar to ‘Stripes’ and ‘Police Academy,’ the comedies I loved growing up,” Garelick said. “Rather than trying to pitch the tone, I figured it would be easier to write the first act to convey who these characters were,” Garelick said.
Some 37 pages later, Garelick has landed the job. The script now focuses on two unlikely lifeguard candidates trying to catch on alongside the buff bodies that will be as abundant in the film as they were in the TV series.

See this is what I hate about Hollywood, why do they have to say it is a Baywatch movie when the only thing it has in common with the show is it is about lifeguards? Just give it a new title, you know the movie might do better if it were disassociated from the show and then in the future a movie respecting (did I just type that) can be made? Strange concept, no?

Now they are turning TJ Hooker into a movie
July 6th, 2009 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: 2 ]

Hollywood is back to destroying, I mean turning television shows into movies and this time it is going to be TJ Hooker according to Variety. Not much is known like if William Shatner won’t be another one of his television shows that gets the big screen treatment or Heather Locklear and Adrian Zmed will repise their roles. The one thing that is known is who is writing it and their past credits gives me very little hope that this movie will be good. Do you want to see it after reading that the other movies they have worked on were Wild Wild West and several Tremors?
I really wish Hollywood would stop making TV shows into movies because only has worked and that was The Brady Bunch. Can you think of any others?

Atari’s Asteroids is being turned into a movie for some reason
July 2nd, 2009 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Universal actually beat out 3 other studios for the rights to make a movie based on the Atari game Asteroids according to The Hollywood Reporter. At this point they don’t know have a plot, but they do have a writer to figure it out. Hopefully that writer will be able to tell me why this classic video game was such a hot commodity that 4 studios want to turn into a movie. I seriously just don’t get it. Watch the video above of the game and tell me what about that says make it into a big blockbuster movie. What is next Pong?

Dimension revies the An American Werewolf in London franchise
June 29th, 2009 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

So last night on AICN they were reporting that one of the best horror movies of all times, An American Werewolf in London was about to have a silver bullet shot into it with a remake, and my heart sank. But thankfully today they are saying that Dimension, who bought the rights to the franchise, is just doing a adding to the franchise because Universal owns the DVD, television and online rights and wouldn’t let them touch the original. Thankfully one of the scariest and well done horror movies won’t be destroyed by a stupid remake that will never capture the feel that original one had.
The 1981 movie already had one sequel in 1997, An American Werewolf in Paris that wasn’t as good. Hopefully Dimension will make us howl at the moon again and the horror classic justice, but when was the last time that happened.
BTW if you have never seen An American Werewolf in London, buy it now and watch it with some you want to hold you as scream like girl… Seriously it is one of the best movies ever in any genre!
