Godzilla stomping back into theaters!
March 30th, 2010 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Godzilla is stomping his way back into movie theaters after 14 years. According to Variety the fire-breathing dragon monster will be back on the big screen in 2012. But unlike the last time we saw him in 1998, the production company promises they will keep true to what he originally was like in the 1950s. Thomas Tull, chairman and CEO of Legendary. “Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has.”
It will be interesting to see how CGI will change things up for him when he destroys NYC in the upcoming movie. And you know it will be done in 3D because what blockbuster isn’t being made that way these days?

Police Academy is looking for new recruits!
March 6th, 2010 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

The Police Academy franchise is looking for new recruits for the millennium. The original producer of the movies, Paul Maslansky told Heat Vision, “It’s going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV,” Maslansky said. “It’s going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.” If he wants to keep the musical theme then he has to bring back without Michael Winslow, without Jones’ vocal talents Police Academy won’t be the same.
While I hate most reboots, I wouldn’t mind seeing this one back on the big screen!

Now they are destroying Gilligan’s Island
March 3rd, 2010 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

There is even more proof that Hollywood hates us because Warner Bros is turning Gilligan’s Island into a feature movie. According to Variety, the movie is in the writing stage and they are hoping to start production next year after the script is complete. Brad Copeland, who is writing the screenplay has also worked on Flight of the Navigator, Wild Hogs, Monster Squad, Yogi Bear, Arrested Development and My Name Is Earl. The only thing that might give me the slightest bit of hope is Sherwood Schwartz and his son LLoyd gave the movie their blessing, but maybe they said yes because they could make money off of it.
Let’s be real minus The Brady Bunch and Charlie Angel’s movies, what TV show has actually worked on the big screen? Miami Vice? Starsky and Hutch? The A-Team? And knowing Hollywood they will wind up casting either Zac Efron or Shia LaBeouf as Gilligan. Although I could see Val Kilmer as The Skipper, but that is do to stature.
Seriously when will Hollywood stop torturing us with these sh!tty remakes?

Now they are destroying Weekend at Bernie’s
January 26th, 2010 under Andrew McCarthy, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Talk about a remake that should be dead like the lead character in the movie and that film is Weekend at Bernie’s. Moviehole is reporting that Gladden Entertainment is redoing the Andrew McCarthy/Jonathan Silverman flick, but instead of at a beach they will do it at a ski lodge. Because we all know dead bodies smell better in the cold as compared to the hot summer sun. Seriously why? Weekend a Bernie’s is a cult classic that is fine the way it is and it doesn’t need to be put on ice with a crappy remake.
BTW Gladden Entertainment is also working on remaking another one of Andrew McCarthy’s film’s Mannequin. I don’t know what their obsession with him is, but why do we have to suffer for it. Actually it is kind of scary how obsessed they are with Andrew McCarthy movies, they better not f*ck with Pretty in Pink because there will be nothing pretty about that.

Now they are destroying Mannequin

Here is some window dressing that I wish Hollywood would’ve walked on by, but sadly they didn’t because Moviehole is reporting that they are remaking Mannequin. The fun ’80s movie that starred Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall, Estelle Getty, James Spader and Meshach Taylor is in the early stages of development by the newly relaunched Gladden Entertainment. Maybe instead of relaunching old movie, they should try coming up with new ideas? Because Hollywood is so sad these day they probably would cast hm Hollywood Montrose, after all they probably wouldn’t have to spend any money on wardrobe because that is the American Idol loser dresses anyways.
