If you are in the LA area, do yourself a favor and come down to a Rockstar taping. They are total chaos! Put it this way, we only have an hour with commercials to air the show, but the tapings take like 2 1/2 hours to do. A LOT of editing has to happen to squeeze in all the performances and comments and video clips and Brooke. The only reason it takes so long is because Tommy, Jason, Gilby and I all ramble on and on and pretty much have a lot of laughs on the couches. It’s not that it’s "too hot for TV" or anything, but the majority of our rants are pretty much useless, unintelligible, insane and simply awesome! I am really pushing to have the DVD set come out with all of the nonsensical banter included. It’s just a different show live. I hate to stereotype ourselves, but it is pretty much what you would excpect it to be. I mean… If Tommy’s comments, such as, "Are you wearing panties?" and "Show me the boat, bitch!" are what makes it to air, I’m sure you can only imagine what doesn’t!

I just wish the editors would show more of this banter because it would help the show. I think Dave is the only cool and tough one being shown of the judges. The rest are kind of useless especially that guy from Metallica. Napster Good, Metallica Bad!

Did Dave break-up with Carmen for Tommy Lee? |

Seriously they will do anything for ratings! If Rock Star: Supernova wants rating these rockers better act like the true rockers they are and toughen up on their critiques. Because when Paula Abdul is tougher on contestants than the Supernova panel is it is pretty sad. I shouldn’t say that is all their fault because two sources told me they were tougher during the taping than what was actually aired.

Supernova vs Supernova |

What happens when two Supernovas collide? Lawsuit. A Southern California rock band called Supernova has filed a complaint against Mark Burnett’s CBS reality show "Rock Star: Supernova," saying it had the name first. The complaint, filed June 27 in U.S. District Court, claiming unfair competition and trademark infringement, seeks to bar the show and its participants from using the Supernova name. It is also asks for compensatory and punitive damages. "Our clients believe they have the superior right on the mark Supernova," the band’s attorney, John Mizhir, told The Associated Press Tuesday, adding that the band "has a long-standing common-law trademark right to the mark." The group first performed under the name Supernova in 1991, according to the lawsuit. The band released several singles and three full-length albums under the name, the lawsuit says. The CBS show using the name first aired July 5. "Rock Star: Supernova" follows 15 contestants who aspire to become the lead singer of Supernova, a new rock band that includes former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. The winner will tour with the band and appear on its album.According to the lawsuit, representatives for Mark Burnett Productions ("Survivor," "The Apprentice") filed seven U.S. trademark applications for the name Supernova and two for "Rock Star: Supernova."Gary Hecker, an attorney for Mark Burnett Productions, said the company has the legal right to the name."The complaint is without merit," he said.Because the lawsuit has not yet been served, its defendants _ Burnett, CBS, Lee, Clarke and Newsted _ "do not have an obligation" to answer it, Hecker said.

Ramblings from a taping of RockStar… |

Ah, the joys of attending a Rock Star: Supernova taping. If you’re lucky enough to have an "in" at CBS, you can go to the front of the line… and take a seat! Otherwise, be prepared to join the masses in a lengthy game of hurry up and wait – outside- in the heat. Then stand… and stand… and stand. I WOULD say that comfortable shoes are a must, but that’s a lie. Because you need six-inch heels to see over the heads of the camera-hungry nightclubbers that pack the pit. It’s American-Bandstand-Dance Fever- Gone-Wild.
Anyway, the taping of what will become Tuesday night’s show was okay. Not spectacular. There were a few good performances in there, but I can guarantee you the producers and judges already know the top three contenders (if not THE WINNER) for the Supernova gig. If they go with a woman, Dilana has got to be the top choice. As for the guys, all I remember is that a lot of them don’t have the stage presence to front a rock band. "Mr. Iceland" Magni was better this week than last, and if Iceland keeps voting, he’ll probably stick around a while longer… but he won’t be the lead singer of Supernova. Neither will Phil, Jill, Chris, Dana or Zayra. I can’t even remember who was who among Josh, Toby and Ryan. I think they had good performances, but obviously, no stand-outs. Lukas is just…. odd. And the whole homeless-guy-turned-rockstar thing got old with J.D. (who, sources say, was pretty much a shoe-in from the get-go last season despite how it was ‘played’ for TV).
For those of you who were turned off by the judges being too darn nice…. have no fear. They obviously got a talkin’ to from the man himself, Mark Burnett (who was seen drifting around the set throughout the evening). The judges pulled all sorts of non-sequitor and conflicting criticisms out of their tattered pockets… but still found time to incorporate those all-important rockstar critiques like "you have a nice ass" and "the ladies love you, man". Oy.
It will definitely be interesting to see how the show is edited for Tuesday because there were some bizarre and lengthy exchanges – between the rockers and the judges, and between the judges themselves. Jill talked back — at length, and very defensively– when she was accused of trying to mimic Courtney Love. Dana tried to pretend she was all grown up, singing "Born to Be Wild". Puh-leeze. Just go home! You DO NOT want to be on a tour bus with these guys!! Tommy Lee was in not-so-rare (i.e. totally out of it) form… especially when he told fellow judge Jason to just "shut up" – and then tried to kiss and make up. ICK.
The biggest problem is that NOBODY — not the judges and certainly not the contestants seem to know what sound Supernova is going for. At least with INXS, the rockers had a particular vibe to strive for and the audience could really get a feel for who was "just not right for our bahnd, INXS". Not so with Supernova.
Zayra admitted (in whatever accent that is of hers) that she was in diapers when the judges were rockin’ out, so she wasn’t "all that familiar" with their music (I suspect she doesn’t know a single Metallica, Guns ‘N Roses or Motley Crue song). And she took the judges to task (we’ll see if this makes the cut) for not clueing the contestants in to what the heck the all-important "Supernova sound" even is! She says the contestants therefore represent a "boo- fay" (or as we say here in America, a "buffet" or smorgasboard) for the judges to sample.
The best thing this show has going for it is the House Band. It rocks. It puts the AI band to shame. Give those guys a contract… and send Tommy Lee home.
Thanks Hannah!

Well, when you’re wrong you’re wrong… Or at least, when I’m wrong… I am way wrong! I was absolutely certain that Chris would be out last night. In my defense, never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that Matt would choose to do a Duran Duran song to "save" himself! I still believe had he chosen almost ANYTHING else, Chris would have been packing his things. Frankly, I was less impressed with his Doors performance than I was with Matt’s DD performance, but come on, at least play the right game. Matt basically brought a catcher’s glove to a poker table. He had to go. I have been having a lot of fun reading all the online press about the show. I am amazed by the fact that Reality Blogs and critics spend so much time trashing us. If you think about it, they spend way more time in Rockstarland than the average viewer does. They watch it, write about it, watch again, recap and then go on about how we are "too nice" or that we are whores. HAHAHAHA!!! (At least I am writing about something that I am actually doing.) As for the critics that call us whores, we aren’t the ones getting paid to spend hours on something we don’t enjoy! I mean, who is the real whore here? We love what we do. We are having a blast. Honestly, you would think that we are having auditions for cardiologists that haven’t finished Med School to perform open heart surgery. I mean, lighten up a bit! This is just a group of guys that want to make a band. It is "entertainment" not art. A TV show. The art hopefully comes when they get in the studio, write, record and take it out on the road. As for being "too nice"… Well, the truth is that with Rock, you can’t really teach it. It comes from the heart. Even if you suck, you can really mean it. So we try to give helpful criticisms when possible. With a pop show, you can say, "Change your hair, work with a song writer, get a stylist, take vocal lessons, etc…" I’m sure a lot of them are totally passionate about what they do, but in my opinion it’s not the same. I find it to be more packaged and sellable than anything else, but hey, if it makes some people happy to listen to stuff like that, God bless them. With rock however, it’s not about that. Lou Reed is an all time favorite of mine, but if he sang on a show like this as a young struggling artist and got butchered, we could have potentially lost out on his huge impact on rock culture. OK… Yeah, I know… He NEVER would have done that… I’m just saying.

First off, wow he can read! Second Duran Duran will go down in history books as the band who really launched music videos, Navarro will go down in history as one of the men married to Carmen Electra. What and ever Dave Navarro.
