Katie Rees, the dethroned Miss Nevada USA 2007, didn’t waste any time in shutting down her myspace.com Web site. Before blocking the page, she left this opening quote: "Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I’m not perfect — and I don’t have to be, but before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean." — Bob Marley Rees was stripped of the title on Thursday for racy photos taken five years ago, the Miss Universe Organization announced. Runner-up Helen Salas will replace Rees at the 2007 Miss USA Pageant on March 23 in Los Angeles. A year ago, Nevada’s Miss America candidate, Crystal Wosik, ignited a controversy with her pro-Yucca Mountain comments during the interview process at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood. Wosik told the judges the planned nuclear waste repository "has to go someplace, and that was the best-built facility in the country." When asked what if people died from a nuclear accident, she replied, "We just have to take one for the team."

Well the last pageant holder that was removed because of raunchy photos did ok…Vanessa Williams!

Miss America comments on Miss USA |

Reigning Miss America Jennifer Berry carefully sidestepped the Miss USA controversy at a "Rocky Balboa" reception Tuesday night. But it wasn’t difficult to miss her point. While Berry and Miss America organizers are "choosing not to comment," Berry said the Tara Conner brouhaha has helped shed light on the differences between the two pageant programs. Miss USA is a for-profit enterprise owned by Donald Trump and NBC. Miss America is a nonprofit scholarship program. Trump announced Tuesday that he would give Conner a second chance, instead of dethroning her for inappropriate behavior, including underage drinking. Meanwhile, the schedule for next month’s Miss America contest (Jan. 26-29) at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood is coming together. A key change: The finals have been moved from the traditional Saturday TV telecast to Monday in hopes of boosting ratings. Saturday has long been a ratings challenge.

Miss USA Tara Conner, who had come under criticism amid rumors she had been frequenting bars while underage, will be allowed to keep her title, the Miss Universe Organization announced Tuesday. The organization is owned by Donald Trump and NBC. "I’ve always been a believer in second chances," Trump said at a news conference. He and Conner met earlier Tuesday morning. Conner, who hails from Kentucky, won the title in April and has been living in New York. Recent media accounts of heavy drinking brought a storm of criticism, since she was underage at the time. She turned 21 on Monday. If Conner had been dethroned, her title would have been taken over by first runner-up Miss California Tamiko Nash.

Who saw that coming? I think he did the right thing. Now her platform will be all about anti-alcohol and drugs and rehab. Much more interesting than World Peace. Plus she has helped to create interest in Miss USA again because seriously who knew she was Miss USA before this whole thing happened?
