Robin Williams jokes about rehab and Mel Gibson
September 29th, 2006 under Mel Gibson, Robin Williams. [ Comments: none ]

With his trademark manic humor, Robin Williams spoke out Friday for the first time about his stint in rehab for treatment of alcoholism. "I went to rehab the same day that Mel Gibson was arrested on (Pacific) Coast Highway," Williams said in an interview to promote his new movie, "Man of the Year," out Oct. 13. "I think it allowed me a certain anonymity." Williams added: "God does have a sense of humor that he was stopped by the only Jewish highway patrolman." As for rumors he was in the same rehab program as Gibson, Williams said at the Beverly Hills press junket, "No, we never met, and we were supposedly keeping correspondence. But I have Jewish agents so I haven’t gotten any messages." Williams then riffed on what it would have sounded like if he had been called by Gibson the night of Gibson’s arrest. Using an Australian accent, Williams, said, "Hi, Robin, I’m on the Coast Highway come pick me up. Don’t worry!" A rep for Williams, 55, confirmed in August that the he was entering rehab after he "found himself drinking again and… decided to take proactive measures to deal with this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family."

Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto banished to Oklahoma
September 23rd, 2006 under Mel Gibson. [ Comments: none ]

Actor and director Mel Gibson visited two Oklahoma towns this week to attend screenings of his new movie, "Apocalypto." Gibson did not make a public appearance during screenings held at the Riverwind Casino in Goldsby and Cameron University in Lawton. At the entrance of the casino — where the film was shown Friday to a mostly American Indian audience — reporters were kept behind partitions. He arrived at Cameron on Thursday morning wearing a mask and wig so he wouldn’t be noticed, university spokeswoman Amber McNeil said. Jhane Myers, an Oklahoma City-based publicist who escorted Gibson, issued a statement saying Gibson was "deeply touched by the warm reception he has received while in Oklahoma." Myers had said earlier in the week that Gibson had canceled the screenings planned for Oklahoma. Gibson co-wrote and directed "Apocalypto," which is billed as an action-adventure film set in the last days of the Mayan civilization in Mexico. It will be released Dec. 8.

You know the movie is bad when it test screening at a Casino in buttfreak Oklahoma and at University no one ever heard of in a city no one ever heard of. In fact it is so bad that Mel Gibson felt the need to hide his identity from everyone there. (OT that kind of reminds me of his Simpson’s episode he was on.)

Like father, like son: Mel Gibson’s son busted for DUI
September 5th, 2006 under Mel Gibson. [ Comments: none ]

Mel Gibson’s son Christian is apparently a chip off the old block – he, too, has been busted for drunken driving. Two and a half weeks after his father copped a plea in California for driving under the influence, the latest Star magazine reports Gibson’s 24-year-old son was arrested last year.Budding actor Christian Gibson, one of seven children of Mel and his wife, Robyn, was a student at the University of Colorado when he was pulled over by a cop in Boulder.A police report said the younger Gibson was spotted Feb. 7, 2005, at 1:55 a.m. making an illegal turn in his Chevy Blazer. The officer said a strong smell of alcohol came from the SUV, which was also carrying four passengers."I saw Gibson had red, watery eyes and slow, slurred speech," the officer said in his report. "I asked Gibson to step out of the vehicle and walk on the sidewalk."The cop said the "Braveheart" actor’s son offered to perform "voluntary roadside maneuvers," including placing a finger to his nose and walking a straight line.Allegedly unable to deliver on those promises, Gibson was promptly arrested. Cops searching his Blazer also found several shotgun casings, which Gibson said were left from a "hunting vacation."Gibson, who had a starring role in the 2004 flick "Billy’s Day Out," spent five hours in the Boulder County Jail. He later underwent residential substance abuse treatment at the expensive Cirque Lodge in Sundance, Utah.
