Paramount Pictures has resurrected shelved pic "Ripley’s Believe It or Not!," hiring Steve Oedekerk to overhaul the script. Remaining in place are Jim Carrey as Ripley and Tim Burton as director, both of whom approved Oedekerk. Studio is eyeing a winter 2008 production start in China and a 2009 release date. One of the most ambitious and pricey pictures hatched by the new Paramount regime, "Ripley’s" was postponed (Daily Variety, June 13) months before its fall production start. Execs made that move because they faced the prospect of a China shoot with a budget north of $150 million, when Burton and especially Carrey were still coming up with ideas that necessitated a significant rewrite of the script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Oedekerk, who’ll be paid a seven-figure fee, has long been a Carrey go-to-guy. They began collaborating on "In Living Color," and Oedekerk wrote and directed "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" and scripted "Bruce Almighty." Oedekerk most recently scripted the Tom Shadyac-directed "Evan Almighty," starring Steve Carell. Carrey hatched many of the creative ideas that will broaden the emphasis from his Robert Ripley character to some of the wonders he uncovered for his "Believe It or Not!" column. Armed with a new take that has been approved by the studio, Oedekerk will work to ramp up the spectacle factor for a budget comparable to the original.

This movie had me until I saw Tim Burton is still attached. He justs takes the bizarre one step too far…ie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Morgan Creek has begun the detective work on a kooky cold case. The production company has hired Jeff Sank and brothers Jason and Justin Heimberg to write a third installment of the hit franchise "Ace Ventura."The two previous "Ventura" comedies — 1994’s "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and the following year’s "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" — grossed more than $180 million domestically and helped establish Jim Carrey as one of the highest-paid comedy actors in Hollywood. The latest pet project is expected to center on the eccentric detective’s son, who steps into his father’s shoes to take over the family business. It is not yet known who will fill the pet detective’s Hawaiian shirts, pompadour hairdo and 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the third installment.

This has a Razzie nom written all over it. If Shia LeBeouf wasn’t doing Transformers he would be perfect for this.

Jenny McCarthy is opening up about her romance with funnyman Jim Carrey, saying she’s happy – but not ready to tie the knot. "Our dynamic is great. I’m very, very happy. It’s a lot of laughing," the actress told PEOPLE at the celebration for the 40th anniversary of Caesars Palace Las Vegas on Wednesday. When asked about a possible wedding, McCarthy, who has been spending time with Carrey, 44, in the capital of quickie weddings, Las Vegas, said, "No, there is no marriage on my mind – at all." McCarthy and Carrey quietly started dating eight months ago, but they’ve been stepping out in public recently with dates including a June 16 helicopter ride in Santa Monica and outings to Fiona Apple and Radiohead concerts.

I might be the only one, but I am rooting for them!
