|  Elsewhere in the land of comic-book protagonists, Malcolm McDowell has joined the cast of the NBC hit drama Heroes. In a recurring role, McDowell will play an ally of Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar). Petrelli is a politician who harbors a secret.

|  With his newfound fame as a star of Heroes, Masi Oka says his social life – and romantic prospects – have improved. “I’ve been going on dates a lot, [looking for] my soul mate here and there,” Oka, 32, told PEOPLE at the 38th annual NAACP Image Awards nominee luncheon in Beverly Hills. Despite his busy work schedule, “I make it a point to get out and just meet people,”
said the Tokyo native, who plays anime enthusiast Hiro Nakamura on the NBC hit. “Hopefully I’ll find someone I can share the rest of my life with.” But he’s not looking for that special someone at the typical Hollywood hot spots. “I’m not a big club person. I don’t go clubbing per se, especially to pick up people,” he said. “Most of the people I meet through these kinds of functions, or friends of friends I get set up with.” Internet dating is also out. “It’s a little bit hard, especially now with the lack of
anonymity I have. If I post up my pictures, who knows what I’m going to get?” And there is not yet a leading contender for his heart. “I’m kind of playing the field,” he said. “There are some wonderful people I’ve met, that I hang out with. I’m just taking my time and hanging out, getting to meet a lot of great people.” Does that include his fans? “It’s definitely been a veritable smorgasbord,” he said. “Before being an actor, I’m a human being, same as them.”
