Christopher Landon is back with a new movie. This time, instead of reliving the same day like Happy Death Day or switching bodies with a killer of the opposite sex like Freaky, he is exploring what would happen if someone wanted you to put the drop on someone to save your child in Drop.
Meghann Fahy plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.
Will she kill a stranger to save her son? We will find out on April 11th. What would you do?
Scream 7 has been plagued with problems. First, Melissa Barrera was fired for things she said on social media. Then, Jenna Ortega followed her out the door, although some said her exit was due to her filming schedule for Netflix’s Wednesday. Finally, director Christopher Landon quit the film.
Now, two months later, we are getting an update on the film from the franchise’s biggest stars, Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson. Both of them are back for the sequel, and there is a script.
Campbell and Williamson both made announcements on their social media:
Campbell wrote: Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well actually I could. While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson
Williamson wrote: It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise. Thank you to all the Scream fans. You are the gift that keeps giving. @nevecampbell See you on set. @guybusick @officialxpe @spyglassmediagr/blockquote>
While we know that Scream 7 is happening, we do not know what is happening in the seventh film in the franchise or who will be returning to the sequel. I am sure that will be announced soon.
When it was announced in August that Christopher Landon was hired to helm Scream 7, I was so excited to see what the man who gave us Happy Death Day and Freaky was going to do with the franchise.
But a lot has happened since then. Melissa Barrera was reportedly fired for things she said about being pro-Palenstine. And her movie sister, Jenna Ortega is said to have quit because of her firing.
Since then, Landon, who is Michael Landon’s son, has been silent. But today, he screamed an update. “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago,” he wrote. “This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ [Craven] legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin [Williamson] created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”
I hope that Spyglass Media Group can find a way to save the Scream 7 Landon was working on and bring everyone back. Because I think it could’ve been the best movie in the franchise had it been made. Landon is the Horror director of the future that we will be admiring for generations.
The Scream franchise came back from hiatus in a big way with Scream 5 and Scream 6. So after two successful movies, it should be no surprise that they want to do another one.
Christopher Landon, who made us laugh and scream with the Happy Death Day movies and Freaky, made an announcement today. “Looks like 7 really is a lucky number,” he wrote. “More to come…”
This news made me scream. I don’t like most of the current Horror movies that make it to the big screen these days. But I really enjoy Landon’s films and the Scream ones. So I can’t wait to see what this merger gives us.
Vince Vaughn has played a lot of different roles throughout his long career. On Friday the 13th in November, he will play one he has never done before. He is a serial killer trapped in a teenage girl’s body. Freaky, right? That is why the film is called just that, Freaky.
Seventeen-year-old Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) is about to be killed by the serial killer known as Butcher (Vaughn) when somehow they wind up switching bodies. They have just 24 hours to reverse the curse, or they will stay in the other person’s body forever.
While Millie and her friends Nyla (Celeste O’Connor), Joshua (Misha Osherovich), and Booker (Uriah Shelton) try to get her back into her body, Butcher is butchering the student body at her high school.
Freaky is written and directed by Christopher Landon. The man who gave us Happy Death Day, the best horror franchise of the 2010s. Therefore, I know it is going to be good. Especially since it looks like Vaughn is giving an Oscar-winning performance. He is like so totally believable as a teenage girl.
