Ex-Gov McGreevy was a no show on Letterman, but the show went on with his Top Ten book titles
September 28th, 2006 under CBS, David Letterman. [ Comments: none ]

On tonight’s LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Letterman introduced the Top Ten List as being presented by former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey. However, instead of McGreevey, former LATE SHOW writer and staff member Gerard Mulligan walked out on stage to present the Top Ten List. Letterman explained that "we had invited the governor to be here, he said he would be here, we were all very excited that he was going to be here and then he stopped calling. They just stopped calling. They left us numbers that were unplugged, we couldn’t get a hold of him. He said, ‘Oh no, we’re coming, don’t worry, we’re coming,’ and that’s the last we heard of him…I hope he’s okay."

"Chapter Titles in Jim McGreevey’s Book"

10.       "The Day I Got Caught Governing Myself"
9.         "How to Pretend to Like Girls for 47 Years"
8.         "From Schwarzenegger to Pataki: Governors I’d Like to Oil Up"
7.         "Another Confession – I Can’t Resist Entenmann’s Pound Cake"
6.         "At First I Just Thought I Was Bipartisan"
5.         "The
New Jersey Budget Crisis – What Would Judy Garland Do?"
4.         "A Look at the Governor’s Balls"
3.         "Politicians Who Left a Bad Taste in My Mouth"
2.         "How to Push Through a Bill – Or a Steve or a Larry…"
1.         "Why I Don’t Like Bush"

So tune into CBS at 11:35p tonight to watch the Top Ten read on The Late Show with David Letterman.
BTW that is one of the funniest Top Ten’s I have seen in a while!

David Spade had a great casting day!
September 27th, 2006 under CBS, Comedy Central, David Spade. [ Comments: none ]

Comedy Central has picked up "The Showbiz Show With David Spade" for a third season. Additionally, Spade has joined the cast of CBS’ midseason comedy series "Rules of Engagement." Comedy Central has ordered 13 new episodes of "Showbiz Show." The half-hour weekly comedic parody of the entertainment industry is slated to launch its third season in February. Spade said he was "stoked" to be back for a third season. "I want to get back on the air as quickly as possible so that we don’t miss out," he said. "There is too much good stuff going on right now in Hollywood. We have to catch up." "Rules" revolves around an engaged couple (Bianca Kajlich, Oliver Hudson), a married couple (Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price) and a happily single guy (Greg Pitts). Spade will play the engaged man’s best friend. Spade’s last-minute addition to the cast of "Rules" is reminiscent of his first stint in a primetime comedy series. In 1997, he was a late addition to another new midseason sitcom, NBC’s "Just Shoot Me!" He was added to the cast of the workplace comedy after the original pilot already had been shot and went on to become one of the main characters on the long-running show. His series credits also include a role on ABC’s "8 Simple Rules."

Charlie Sheen gets a huge raise
September 27th, 2006 under CBS. [ Comments: none ]

After two months of negotiations, "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen is close to finalizing a new salary pact that would make him the highest-paid comedy star in television today. Sources said Sheen will earn about $350,000 per episode this season from producer of the CBS powerhouse, Warner Bros. Television. This represents a hefty increase from his previous payday in the low six figures. Sources said CBS is kicking in some money for the pay raise for Sheen, as has become common practice for networks in high-level actor renegotiations deals. Sheen also is known to have a significant profit-participation stake in the series, now in its fourth season. The top of the sitcom actor pay scale remains the nearly $2 million per episode Ray Romano pulled in for the final season of CBS’ "Everybody Loves Raymond" in 2004-05. Sheen began renegotiating his deal in July, shortly after Warner Bros. entered lucrative deals to sell the syndication rights to the Tribune Broadcasting stations (for broadcast) and to FX (for cable), effective 2010. Representatives for Warner Bros., CBS and Sheen declined comment Wednesday.

You know Jon will be a Cryer over this, but not as much as Denise Richards.

Did ABC make a mistake moving Grey’s Anatomy to Thursdays against CSI?
September 22nd, 2006 under CBS, Shonda Rhimes. [ Comments: none ]

The biggest battle of the new season — Grey’s Anatomy vs. CSI — was underway last night with ABC’s red-hot medical drama the clear winner. But CBS still managed to be the most-watched network (770,000 viewers ahead of ABC), while ABC finished first in the overnights and adults 18-49. A night of season premieres on NBC settled for the distant No. 3 spot, while Fox’s perennial Thursday audience woes continued. The CW hid under the desk with repeats.

Grey’s Anatomy at 9 p.m. opened season three with a hefty 17.1/25 in the overnights, 25.14 million viewers and a 10.9/26 among adults 18-49. CBS’ CSI was down, but far from out, with its season-premiere at a 14.9/22 in the overnights, 22.04 million viewers and a 7.5/18 among adults 18-49. For comparative purposes, take a look at both dramas versus their year-ago launches.

Grey Anatomy (ABC)
9/25/05 (Sun. 10 p.m.) – Overnights: 13.2/20, Viewers: 18.98 million, A18-49: 8.3/20
9/21/06 (Thurs. 9 p.m.) – Overnights: 17.1/25, Viewers: 25.14 million, A18-49: 10.9/26
Percent Change – Overnights: +30, Viewers: +32, A18-49: +31

CSI (CBS)
9/22/05 – Overnights: 19.3/27, Viewers: 29.02 million, A18-49: 10.2/25
9/21/06 – Overnights: 14.9/22, Viewers: 22.04 million, A18-49: 7.5/18
Percent Change – Overnights: -23, Viewers: -24, A18-49: -26

This is the first time a non-season finale of any series has beat an episode of CSI since April 1, 2004 (and that show was the season-finale of then must see The Apprentice).

Does CSI’s William Petersen want off the case?
September 22nd, 2006 under CBS. [ Comments: none ]

‘CSI" star William Petersen is looking for more time off from the hit crime show so he can appear in stage plays next year. Petersen, who sources say is under contract with "CSI" through 2008, hopes to star in a Chicago-produced play sometime next year. He’s already managed to work in some time off the show this season to appear in a play in Rhode Island. To do the stage show, he’ll be absent from two episodes of "CSI," and he appears to be pushing for the same kind of deal next year. "We’re going to do a play as soon as we can get enough time to make it worth everyone’s while," Petersen told the Chicago Tribune of talks he’s had with Dennis Zacek, the artistic director of the famed Victory Gardens Theater, the company that gave Petersen his big break. Zacek says, "I’m trying to have something custom-made for him, but it’s in the making. It’s not finished. "I’m not sure this means we won’t see him in any more movies or in any more TV stuff, but I do think there’s a hunger to get back to the demands and the purity and the risks of live theater." "There may be stuff I do [on ‘CSI’] next year," Petersen says. "I just know that I want to do a play in Chicago next year." Petersen has a history of aggravating CBS brass with comments about leaving "CSI," and has ripped the network for twice spinning off the crime drama.

After yesterday’s numbers he might just get his wish.
