Back in April Boston Legal aired an episode called The Court Supreme where Alan Shore and Denny Crane went in front of the Supreme Court of the United States and he argued that his client not be put to the death because he allegedly rape a child.
Today the real life Supreme Court of the United States voted on the matter of whether or not someone should be executed and here is what they decided according to Fox News.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down a law that allows the execution of people convicted of a raping a child.
In a 5-4 vote, the court said the Louisiana law allowing the death penalty to be imposed in such cases violates the Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
“The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in his majority opinion. His four liberal colleagues joined him, while the four more conservative justices dissented.
As soon as I saw the news I wondered if SCOTUS saw this episode and based their decision on Alan Shore’s (James Spader’s) Emmy worthy speech. If he doesn’t win the Emmy for the second year in the row for this speech there is something wrong with the Emmy voters. I mean crap it swayed (don’t you think they saw the epsiode) the Supreme Court of the United States, what more proof do you need that it is Emmy worthy!!!
Nikki Finke is reporting that Boston Legal will back for a fifth season this fall!!! After negotiations money were finally decided to ABC’s liking Boston Legal will back to win more Emmys, but not all the cast will be there to share in the Emmy joy. She added expect the cast to be scaled down again and personally I won’t miss the distractions that haven’t added a lot to the show this season.
BTW I can’t believe that ABC even considered dropping Boston Legal, it is the only show on ABC that gets better with time unlike Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Lost and Desperate Housewives.
Dang how amazing is James Spader in this scene on Boston Legal where he tells the Supreme Court how it really is! David E Kelley did a great job when he wrote this scene and what he wrote is so true. Hopefully SCOTUS is watching this and realizing how far off track they have gotten from the original premise of what they are suppose to be.
Kudos to David E Kelley and James Spader!!!
BTW if you have never seen Boston Legal, please watch as it moves to its new timeslot of 10p on Wednesday! Let’s save a show worth watching on ABC that doesn’t lose its touch as time goes on unlike well Desperate Housewives, Lost and Grey’s Anatomy.
Murphy Brown and Peter Hunt are going to be reunited on Boston Legal according to Michael Ausiello! To make the news even better Scott Bakula will be playing an old boyfriend of Candice Bergen's and meets her at a bar, I wonder if the name of the bar will be Phil's? That is the best news I have heard for Boston Legal since James Spader won the Emmy!
Bus sadly, I guess John Larroguette is out as hinted for tonight's episode that airs at 10p on ABC…:(
I am still trying to get over the loss of one of my favorite characters on Boston Legal, but I got some good news today that Rene Auberjonois will be part of a several episode arc in the upcoming season according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mark Valley and him will go up against one of the lawyers from the firm in court, which makes me think that the two will try to get rid of named partner Denny Crane (William Shatner) and when they lose they lose their jobs. Alan Shore (James Spader) will keep and get another love interest this season with both Gail O'Grady and Saffron Burrows. I wonder if either woman will come between Alan and Denny because I fear the woman that does that. Hustle & Flow's Taraji P. Henson will be joining the cast as a series regular.
