Axl has words for Newcastle Guns n’ Roses have spoken out amid reports that their gig at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena last Wednesday (July 19) ended with the band being bottled off the stage by a booing crowd. The band, plus former member Izzy Stradlin, finished their set early after being overwhelmed by the volume of bottles that hit the stage. In an statement, Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose explained: "Getting hit wasn’t a big deal. We stopped the song and gave a warning. We came back and started the song over and completed it. We then said goodnight. The house lights went down and I got hit a second time, in the mouth, by a solid object thrown by someone in the audience""After having warned the crowd that we would leave, and having played more than two hours, we left the stage and called it a night with the full support of everyone in the band, out guests and Management."He added that his bandmates had supported the decision."Izzy (Stradlin) was the first to immediately support the decision verbally to me personally before I had physically left the stage are," he explained. "Tommy (Stinson-bass) and Frank (Ferrer- drums) came to my dressing room to say how much they appreciated the decision to not continue under those conditions, and express their support for not tolerating anyone throwing items at the stage with a negative intent. This has been G N’ R’s policy since playing Donnington in 1998."

Maybe if he didn’t delay the show so he could eat they wouldn’t have thrown the bottles? Stange concept.

AXL Rose nearly sparked a riot at a reunion concert by refusing to go on stage until he had eaten a roast lamb dinner. The 44-year-old Guns n’ Roses singer kept fans waiting an hour and 15 minutes in sweltering heat while caterers rushed to prepare his grub. Thousands started jeering and throwing objects at the stage in Newcastle, but wildman Axl – who flew in by helicopter – refused to budge. Fan Saskia Green, 25, said: "It was really hot and the crowd was booing because he was taking forever. "A security guard said the delay was caused by Axl demanding a lamb dinner before he went on – very rock ‘n’ roll." Colin Revel, manager of the Metro Arena, confirmed Axl refused to play until he had been fed, adding: "Only a roast dinner would do."

You would think he would eat before he went to the concert. I guess there weren’t any security guards for him to take a bite out of.

GUNS N’ ROSES frontman AXL ROSE has defended allegedly biting a Swedish security guard during a drunken brawl, insisting he was protecting his personal assistant. The singer was held in a Stockholm jail after being arrested last week (27JUN06) and ordered to pay 10,000 kronor ($1,360/GBP756) in damages to the security guard. However, he argues the fine is unfair, because the hotel staffer was threatening his female aide. Rose says, "My assistant BETA and I were talking in the lobby of the hotel when security started to give us a hard time. "My only concern was to make sure she was okay." He added, "We had a great gig in Stockholm and I am not going to let this incident spoil that."
