While Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are having their improbable wedding on Saturday in Rome, they’ll be missing something more important: a huge auction in Los Angeles of movie memorabilia. More than 1,000 props and costumes will be auctioned off all day Saturday and Sunday at Raleigh Studios, many from the Oscar-winning movies made at Miramax during its 25-year heyday. This includes one-of-a-kind items from "Chicago," "Gangs of New York" and "Shakespeare in Love." But there also some real cult items, too, from movies like the South Park group’s "Team America." Proceeds go to the Max Family Foundation, started by Bob and Harvey Weinstein in memory of their father. The Weinsteins notably disburse their funds to Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang and the Robin Hood Foundation and amfAR. For more info, check out Premiereprops.com.

A little trivia – Raleigh Studios is the oldest studio in Hollywood!

Fifty years after his first appearance on the show that became known as "American Bandstand," Dick Clark is ready to let go of the microphone. The famed host is auctioning off a number of items from his personal collection of musical memorabilia, including the microphone he used beginning July 9, 1956 — his first day on the rock ‘n’ roll show that made him famous. "It’s tough to part with that one," Clark said of the microphone, which was valued by Arlan Ettinger, president of Guernsey’s auction house, at between $10,000 and $100,000. Other items to be sold include a bass guitar that Paul McCartney played when he was a Beatle, a beaded glove that Michael Jackson wore in his moonwalking phase and the harmonica that Bob Dylan played in "The Last Waltz." Clark, 76, described himself as "a pack rat" since childhood and said his scripts and memorabilia had filled 28,000 square feet in a California warehouse. "I’ve got every Life magazine that was ever printed, because my grandmother saved them for me," he said. "I’ve got most of the Playboy magazines. I’ve got Fortune — lovely photographs in there. I saved everything." Clark, who suffered a stroke in 2004, still goes to work daily and undergoes therapy, Ettinger said. The auction was planned for Dec. 5-6 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Guernsey’s said it would be a no-reserve auction, with everything selling for the highest bid. Much of the profits from the sale were to go to the T.J. Martell Foundation, which was founded by the music industry to raise money for research on cancer and AIDS, Ettinger said.

Want to own something of Cher’s? |

Fashion icon and award-winning singer and actress Cher is clearing her Malibu home of its Gothic contents and reshaping her life in a giant garage sale. Following a trend set by rock star Elton John, Cher is selling off nearly 800 items from stage costumes to gem encrusted jewelry, works of art, furniture and even a huge Hummer car in an auction expected to raise more than $1 million."This is a lot more than a garage sale. Apart from the dresses and jewels there are Old Masters and architectural drawings," said Darren Julien of Julien’s auctions."She has a huge following. She is an icon. Her career in song, stage and screen has spanned nearly four decades," he told Reuters as some of the items went on show in London on Monday ahead of the sale in Los Angeles on October 3-4.The sale is being jointly organized by Sotheby’s New York office and Julien’s of the United States.Among the items on show are several dresses by star designer Bob Mackie, white and yellow gold rings and necklaces and a book of architectural drawings by 19th century Gothic Revivalist Augustus Pugin."She decided a while ago that she wanted to sell off a few things and change her style, and it grew from that to this collection of some 200 gowns and costumes and nearly 800 items in total," Julien said."She is redecorating her home, going for a Moroccan-Tibetan look and selling the Gothic revival items," he added, noting that the mannequins supporting the dresses had to be especially made because of Cher’s special figure. But not all the money from the sale at the Beverly Hilton will go back into Cher’s home, an undeclared but "substantial" portion will go to a range of charities that she supports, Julien said. And it is not as though she needs the money — in 2002 the Rolling Stone magazine estimated her personal wealth at $600 million.

OMG! I wonder what is the cheapest thing at the auction?
