Five Days at Memorial is a story that needed to be told, and Apple TV+ nailed it
August 12th, 2022 under Apple TV+. [ Comments: none ]

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. The city was not prepared for what was going to happen after she hit. As we know, the levees broke, and the city was flooded, stranding her citizens.

Not only was the city unprepared, but so was one of its hospitals. Apple TV+ is the story of the hellish Five Days at Memorial Hospital went through and the gut-wrenching decisions they had to make.

During the first night, they remained relatively calm as Katrina huffed and puffed. It looked like they made it through the worst of it. And then the power went out. Luckily they had a generator and got it back on.

Unfortunately, the air conditioning was not on the generator and stopped working in the heat. That was the beginning of their troubles.

As the days went out, the generator ran out of gas, and they struggled to keep patients alive. In fact, they started losing them due to the heat, lack of food and water, and no electricity. Not only that, the plumbing stopped working.

They had very little contact with the outside world. Even if they had more, it wouldn’t have helped. No one knew what they were doing. They tried to get the owners of the hospital to rescue them, but their calls were literally ignored.

They were surrounded by water and had no way out. No one was coming for them. The critically ill patients who were part of LifeCare Hospitals of New Orleans were getting sicker and sicker.

The head doctor was trying to decide what to do with the pets if they were ever rescued. She decided that they could not go with them, so it was suggested that they be euthanized rather than being left to die.

Finally, on day five, they were told they were going to evacuate everyone at the hospital, but they only had a few hours to do so. The decision was made that those who were the sickest were not healthy enough to go with them. Therefore, they would be left behind. That is when six bodies became 45.

Not over time, but in the hours before, the hospital would be deserted. Were they murdered? That is the question that the final three episodes ask. It is a story that hasn’t been told like this until now and needs to be shared.

What everyone in that hospital went through was horrifying. The decisions that were made make you wonder what you would have done. Would you have saved them? Let them die? Or save them from going through hell alone as they waited to die, abandoned by the people who were supposed to be there for them?

I still don’t know what I would’ve done. And I pray no one ever has to make those decisions again.

You will be left feeling this way after every episode. The first five episodes each take place over one day, from the day of the hurricane until the day they are evacuated. The fifth episode will leave you heartbroken and in tears. It has Emmys written all over it.

The final three episodes focus on the investigation into the 45 deaths and what and who went wrong. Personally, I think they went after the wrong person. But you will understand what I mean when you watch it.

Five Days at Memorial is exceptionally well done. You feel as though you are the fly in the room, watching the unimaginable horrors that they went through. You can feel their desperation and exhaustion. But thankfully, you can’t smell it.

Because of that, Apple TV+ tells the story as it should’ve been told. We cannot let history repeat itself. And hopefully, this will guarantee that it never does.

The limited series event stars Vera Farmiga, Robert Pine, Cherry Jones, Julie Ann Emery, Cornelius Smith Jr., Adepero Oduye, Michael Gaston, Molly Hager, Jeffrey Nordling, and Damon Standifer.

The first episode is streaming now, and a new episode will debut every Friday.

For All Mankind launches into the 21st century for its fourth season
July 25th, 2022 under Apple TV+. [ Comments: 1 ]

Apple TV+ picked up For All Mankind, the alternate universe version of Space travel, for a fourth season. The show’s first season was based in the ’60, and the latter two took place in the ’80s and ’90. This upcoming season will enter the 21st century.

In the first two seasons, they traveled to the moon. This season, which is streaming now, they went to Mars. And we don’t know where they will be traveling to next year. And I can’t wait to see where they go.

Especially after the season finale that airs on August 12th. And what a season finale it is. Even though my favorite character won’t be back. But I have said too much.

Loot has enough loot for Apple TV+ to give it a second season
July 11th, 2022 under Apple TV+. [ Comments: none ]

So the other day, I was looking for something to watch, and I decided to check out Loot on Apple TV+. After four episodes, I was hooked.

I am not usually a Maya Rudolph fan, but she immediately won me over as Molly Novak, a woman who finds herself suddenly single after her husband (Adam Scott) cheats on her. Oh, and did I mention he is a billionaire, and their divorce makes her the third richest woman in the world.

Just when it seems that she is at her lowest, she gets a call from tough-as-nails Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez). Sofia runs Molly’s foundation, which the billionaire has had nothing to do with. However, that is all going to change. Molly is going to change them as much as they are going to change her.

Who are they? There is Sofia, as I mentioned, Arthur (Faxon), who lacks self-confidence and is also recently divorced, Molly’s cousin, the lovable Howard (Funches), and Molly’s personal assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster), who would rather live the lavish lifestyle than work.

They are a mismatched group, but they work amazingly well together. And that is what makes Loot so special.

Therefore, Apple TV+ picked up the series for a second season. It could be because it has found an audience. Or it could be the cliffhangers in the season finale. But I have said too much about that.

For All Mankind goes to Mars for season 3!
June 12th, 2022 under Apple TV+. [ Comments: none ]

For All Mankind is back on Apple TV+ and this season, they are going to go where no man has gone before. They are going to Mars!

Take that, our timeline! If you are not familiar with the series, it is an alternate timeline to ours where John Lennon and John F. Kennedy are alive, and the Astronauts live on the moon in a massive space station.

In fact, this season, the first episode introduces us to a hotel in space, and one of the astronauts’ children that we have seen grow up is going to get married there. They grow up so fast. But then again, it is now 1992, and we got to know their parents about 30 years ago.

During season one, they went to the moon, and now they are getting ready to venture out to the unknown again. NASA and its competitor Russia, who we are at war with in so many ways, are shooting for this to happen in 1996.

But, we are still in 1992, and Ellen Wilson (Jodi Balfour) is running for President of the United States as a Republican. However, she is still keeping the fact that she is a lesbian a secret.

As much as I love their timeline better than ours, I hate that they are still so backward on LGBTQ rights.

Back to the Space Race. This season we are getting to know Dev Ayesa (Edi Gathegi). Think of him like an Elon Musk or a Jeff Bezos. He wants to be the first one on Mars with his company Helios, and he is shooting to launch in 1994.

As soon as he goes public with that fact, NASA and Russia speed up their schedule. Will they be able to do it in two years? And will the ships that they create be ready to do it safely.

It is going to put a lot of pressure on everyone, and tension is going to be high. Margo Madison (Wrenn Schmidt) has her way of doing things, and since she is in charge, she is going to insist that everyone do things her way. That is going to cause a mass exodus, with some of our favorites going to Helios.

Will that give Helios the advantage? Is that enough for them to be the first ones on the planet?

I can’t tell you that. I can tell you this is the most intensive and entertaining season of the three. And all three are excellent and groundbreaking.

If you have never seen the Space drama, then binge the first two seasons and S3’s first two episodes now. It is interesting how just a few things that they have changed lead to a huge Butterfly Effect. Some things remain the same, and others are completely different.

You don’t have to be into Space travel to enjoy this show. You just have to like a television show that is different and captivating.

Are you ready to party with Fraggle Rock again?
January 5th, 2022 under Apple TV+, Sesame Street/Muppets. [ Comments: 9 ]

Fraggle Rock is back! So get ready to party with the Fraggles, Doozers, Gorgs, and Silly Creatures beginning January 21st on Apple TV+. No matter how old you are, you are still young enough to enjoy the singing, silly Muppets!

That is why I love Apple TV+ so much. They keep bringing back the happy things from my childhood and adapting them for today, like Snoopy, Harriet the Spy, and this show. I feel like a kid again, and don’t we need to have that pure happiness? Especially now? Watch the trailer, and don’t tell me you didn’t feel your ice-cold heart start to melt. I know mine did, and that is hard to do.
