So earlier in the week Joe Perry accidentally knocked stick thin Steven Tyler off the stage during an Aerosmith concert, and it looks like the rumored American Idol judge got his revenge on his bandmate. While playing Jones Beach last night Tyler accidentally hit Perry on the head with a mic stand that is a little thinner than the singer himself. Perry seemed to be so upset by the accidentally revenge that he put down his guitar and walked off the stage. Maybe for both of their sakes and health they should play on opposite sides of the stage, but sadly that would not be fun for us. I wonder what they will accidentally do to each other next…
TMZ posted this video of Joe Perry doing the butt with Steven Tyler so hard that he knocked the lead singer of Aerosmith off the stage. I have to wonder if it was accident or it was Perry getting revenge on Tyler for reportedly signing on to be a judge on American Idol. Because if the Dude that Looks Like a Lady does the show that means the band won’t be Walk This Way on stage during September and from January to May. We all know that Perry wasn’t happy when the band had to go on hiatus because of the first time Tyler fell off the stage and then off the wagon?
When it comes to Steven Tyler being a judge on the show, I don’t think he will be good. I have never heard say anything that perked my interest. Well at least not anything that wasn’t in song.
So with one of the 3 or 4 seats reportedly being filled, I am still hoping that Tears for Fears Curt Smith will occupy one of the others!
Now back to the video, I love how after Perry knocks him off the stage “accidentally” he keeps playing for a bit before he decides to help him up.
Joe Perry told WENN that because of Steven Tyler’s health issues, Aerosmith is left no other option but to look for a temporary replacement until he is well enough to rejoin the band.
“We’re already getting the word out there. The word’s been out there for a while. We’ll start having some auditions, making some phone calls. Hopefully, we’ll have found a new singer by the summer, and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road.
“From what I’ve heard, (Tyler) hasn’t left the band. As far as I’m concerned, he hasn’t left the band. He’s never said he was going to leave the band. It’s just that he wanted to go off and do some of his own things. He just never told anybody in the band about it. But his manager has told our manager that he wants to take some time off. And then lately he’s been saying he wants to come back.
“But he has to have leg surgery and foot surgery and it’s basically going to take him out of the picture for about a year, year and a half. So, in the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play. We’re gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot. Just like when (bassist) Tom (Hamilton) was sick – we got David Hull to come in and play bass. When (guitarist) Brad (Whitford) was sick, we got somebody else to come in and play for him. That’s basically how I look at it; we need another singer to fill in.”
While I get what Perry is saying about the band having had to use replacements in the past when one of them was out of due to health reasons, there is a huge difference replacing them and replacing the front man that is the sound of the band. Without Steven Tyler belting out their hits, it is almost like seeing a cover band instead of the real thing. I saw Van Halen when Sammy Hagar was their front man and let me tell you with him doing their classic hits it wasn’t the same as when David Lee Roth did them even though the band was backing him. Would you pay good money to see Aerosmith without Tyler?

Joe Perry was performing a solo show in NYC when Steven Tyler joined him on stage to let him know he isn’t leaving Aerosmith! Tyler said, “I just want New York, New York I want you to know, I am not leaving Aerosmith. And Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors but I, motherf*cker, am the rainbow!” And then the two performed Walk This Way for the crowd!
Now that we have heard that he is not leaving from his mouth, I feel much better about the future of Aerosmith! But I have to admit Joe Perry’s people did a good job to promote his solo project, but it was at cost of Aerosmith fans.
After a nearly a week of wondering if Steven Tyler quit Aerosmith, OK Magazine asked him at The 2009 Women of the Year hosted by Glamour Magazine, of all places, if he was still singing with the band. He told them, “Does it look like I’m leaving Aerosmith?†Steven questioned reporters on the red carpet. “You know what it is, it’s those people who are putting out Joe’s [Perry] album,†he added of how the reports may have originated. Joe’s doing a solo album,†he said. “So people are paying attention to that.â€
OK! Now we can all breathe a sigh of relief as long as he doesn’t fall of stage again…
BTW he also confirmed he is working on solo album which is probably what lead to all of the confusion in the first place.
