Before Betty White was all the hosts’ favorite talk show guest, she was hosting her self-titled talk show with a controversial guest.
I don’t know if you read the story over the weekend, but here it is. In 1954, White had booked Arthur Duncan, an African-American tap dancer on her show, and the Southern States told her to cancel him. She told them, “He stays. Live with it!” She then proceeded to book him two more times before her show got cancelled.
That is why we love her so much! As someone wrote, “You know you are loved if at 99 people say you died too young.” But that was Betty, and that is how we feel.
And how do you feel about seeing her hosting her show and singing when she was 32 in that 1954 episode?
