November 22nd, 2006 under Britney Spears/KFed, Jimmy Kimmel

I have new details on why Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are less than pleased with what went down tonight at the American Music Awards. As E! Online reported earlier this evening, Spears was a surprise presenter at the AMAs and went on right after a comedy bit that featured a K-Fed look-a-like being put in a box and dropped in a river. Spears is said to be upset because no one told her beforehand about the skit. Members of her camp apparently demanded that the skit be cut from the West Coast feed of the show. It wasn’t. K-Fed is less than thrilled, too. His people called and “were freaking out,” a source tells me. So who came up with the spoof? The host of the awards, Jimmy Kimmel. I’m told that it was planned and produced long before Spears signed on for the show. “Britney was a last second add to the show,” my source says. Kimmel isn’t exactly apologizing. He told me shortly after the show, “I knew they wouldn’t mind because I know they both have great senses of humor.” The former lovebirds may not be laughing, but most of the audience was. I was there in the Shrine Auditorium. Even though there were some gasps because of its crudeness, an overwhelming majority of people were laughing and cheering during the skit. Spears and Kimmel have a history of joking together. A few years ago, Spears appeared on Kimmel’s show laying in a stretcher after an internet rumor at the time wrongly claimed that the pop star was hospitalized because of a drug overdose. Reps for Spears, Federline, and the AMAs could not be immediately reached for comment.

So I guess you can say he doesn’t like being this year’s Nick Lachey? I have to say the no-hit wonder thing was funny because he is one!

UPDATE: Here is the video of the joke that pissed them off:
