Kim Kardashian wore a dress that Bob Mackie sketched for Marilyn Monroe to wear to sing Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. It was a one-of-a-kind dress, so what did the legendary designer think about it?
“I thought it was a big mistake,” Mackie told Entertainment Weekly. “[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”
Mackie is 100% correct. It was his design, and it was designed for only one person to fit her every curve perfectly.
Kardashian might be able to use her money and influence to get whatever she wants. However, that doesn’t mean she should. I hope she learned a lesson from this because she was rightfully panned for this decision for so many reasons. The biggest one being she looked hideous in it.
Mackie knows how to make a woman look spectacular, as he has done for women like Marilyn, Cher, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli, and Carol Burnett.
