Betty White has a career that so many of peers have envied and should aspire to and on January 23rd they will be honoring her with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. A week after her 88th she will get this honor and her age is not slowing her down. She is still doing all her animal activism, appearing on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson every now and again, starring in You Again and was recently the best part of The Proposal. No matter what she does whether it is scripted or improv her comedic timing is perfect and always brings a smile to our faces, so when I saw she was getting this honor it brought a smile to my face because she so richly deserves it.
And I am not the only one, here is what the Screen Actors Guild National President Alan Rosenberg said about her getting the honor at the
Screen Actors Guild Award, “Whether creating some of television’s most indelible characters, plunging into film roles with joyous gusto or perfecting the art of the quip as a television panelist and host, Betty White has entertained audiences with her impeccable comic timing and remarkable wit for more than sixty years. Her lifelong devotion to the welfare of animals, manifest in her work as an author, producer and philanthropist, is further evidence of her tremendous humanity and meaningful contributions in so many important areas. Screen Actors Guild is honored to celebrate Betty White’s extraordinary achievements over the course of an exemplary life.†So true!
You know that when she stands up there to accept the award there will be a standing ovation her because who doesn’t love this Golden Girl? She made us laugh and fall in love with her role as Sue Ann Nevins on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls, appearing on her late-husband Alan Lund’s (how she met him) show Password and a countless other memorable TV appearances. And in the recent years we have seen a different side of her humor during the Comedy Central Roast for William Shatner and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. On that note, I hope they ask him to give her honor because I think his admiration and respect for her would make it a really touching speech that I am sure she would have a perfect zinger for!
I can’t wait to see her accept the honor at the Screen Actors Guild Award on January 23rd because I really think she has earned this Life Achievement Award!!!
