So yesterday an hour before Jimmy Kimmel Live was suppose to tape that night’s episode, a power outage knocked out the control room, the broadcast transmission center and the tape operations area. Jimmy Kimmel Tweeted how his quick thinking saved the day and show, “We had a power outage at the studio tonight. No one was killed. Shot the whole show on my MacBook. It will air tomorrow night instead.” So tonight you can watch to see how he did as a cameraman, director, grip and most importantly host as he interviews Seth Rogen who debuts his trailer for The Green Hornet on TV, Wipeout’s John Henson. Plus Dierks Bentley does an impromptu acoustic performance from his new album Up On The Ridge.
This should be the first time a late night talk show was filmed completely on a computer and you can watch it on ABC at 12:05a tonight unless a power outage takes out ABC or your electricity. And for you Twihards tomorrow night at 10p on ABC Kimmel will be interviewing Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
Finally this is not the first time that Jimmy Kimmel had to do a show with power problems, back in November when he was a guest on The Bonnie Hunt Show the studio’s lights went out before he came on and he had to be interviewed by her in the dark. But Kimmel and Hunt are not the only ones who experienced power problems while they taped their episodes, back in October Craig Ferguson lights also went out during the show and he taped most of it with just flashlights. Believe it or not that was not the first time it happened to him, he also taped a show in darkness back in May of 2008.

UPDATE: Here is a sneak preview of tonight’s MacBook episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! I don’t think any cameramen have to worry about losing their jobs to MacBooks just yet, but it is still cool that in desperate times that this desperate measure was able to work.
The dedicated and awesome publicist who works on the show told me that it really was Jimmy’s idea, she said, “When Jimmy heard the power went out – he just grabbed his laptop and said – let’s go!” Brilliant! And I also heard from her that tonight’s episode is just that! So make sure to tune in!!!
BTW is it just me or does the MacBook cam make Jimmy Kimmel look really cute and Seth Rogen really skinny?
