Corey Feldman and Corey Haim are reuniting in the name of reality TV. The former teen idols and RDF USA ("Wife Swap") have teamed with cable net A&E for "The Coreys: Return of the Lost Boys," a comedic half-hour about their lives as grownups. Network has greenlit production on eight episodes for early next year. "Coreys" lands at A&E soon after producer RDF announced the series concept this summer (Daily Variety, June 21). Skein will revolve around the longtime friends and recovering substance abusers 20 years after the height of their popularity: Feldman is married and going back to acting, while Haim is broke and homeless. Episodes will follow the two after Feldman decides to welcome Haim into his home to help put his life back together. Nancy Dubuc, who was upped this summer to A&E TV Networks senior VP of nonfiction programming and new media, said that while the "Coreys" will be a humorous half-hour, nothing about the show’s outcome will be staged. "Its roots are in real life. We are not matching these two stars for a fabricated relationship or reaction," Dubuc said. "They have been childhood friends for a long time … we’re dealing with real humor, conflict and emotion." RDF USA topper Chris Coelen said A&E was a compatible home for "Coreys" because the net has built its reality brand on shows that are both authentic and entertaining. "We’re hoping ‘Coreys’ will be another fun, young and edgy show in its lineup," he said.
