Tonight at the Grammys Adele sang George Michael’s 1996 song FastLove as a tribute to the singer that died less than two months ago. When the song took a tumble, she cursed. Then she said, “I’m sorry for swearing and I’m sorry for starting again. Can we please start it again? I’m sorry, I can’t mess this up for him. I’m sorry. I can’t.”
She stared it over again and it went off without a hitch. So pitch perfect Michael wouldn’t let the sun go down on her for it.
As beautiful as it was, I wish she would’ve picked a song he was more known for. She could’ve slowed down Faith and there wouldn’t have been a dry in the house or at home. Picking one of his lesser known tunes is not really celebrating his career as much as one we all know. He was one of the two late artists who got a special tribute and it was for the reason that his music touched several generations and will keep doing so for many generations to come. This tribute will be forgotten before she can sing the word Hello. It wasn’t bad, it just could’ve been more.
The other legendary singer who got a special tribute tonight was Prince who was a musical King. The man, who died last April, could play over 100 instruments and make music that will last several lifetimes. He was honored by a band founded, The Time and Bruno Mars, who takes inspiration from him. It is something we can all go crazy about because it is a number that perfectly captures the singer’s essence. Let’s Go Crazy over Prince one last time at the Grammys!
