Fox announced today that Steven Tyler has opted to leave American Idol in order to do what the people he has been judging for the last two have not been able to. You know he is going to concentrate on his successful music career. The Aerosmith singer said this in the Fox statement, “After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,†said Tyler. “I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover…On Nov. 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars…IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.†I am going to miss my hometown boy being on the Fox singing competition, not because I watch the show anymore but because I will miss Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Creepy Leer of Nights.
Tyler’s departure makes room for Idol to hire a judge who is a third of his age and much less qualified, but have any of the judges actually offered anything worthwhile?
Personally I think Idol should get rid of the judges (since it looks J-Lo is also leaving and Randy Jackson should leave) and do what American Bandstand did to judge singles with the Rate-a-Records segment. Just let two fans from the audience rate the singers, since we are the ones who are or aren’t going to spend money on the winner’s CD. Personally I think we know more about music than the judges since we buy it and they just make it.
