The X Factor has been almost two years in the making and tonight on Fox at 8p you will get to see if the much talked about show is worth the buzz?
I watched the first episode yesterday and I have to say that Simon Cowell’s new show is a tamer, more uptight version of American Idol. Mr Nasty is nicer, Paula Abdul is less crazy, LA Reid is Randy Jackson without the catch phrases and Nicole Scherzinger just tries too hard. Sounds like it should work, but I found myself bored very quickly. In fact the thing that interested me most about the show was trying to understand what host Steve Jones was saying. I love British accents, but his was hard for me to understand and it bothered me the way he said Los Angeles.
Now when it comes to the singers, yes they are better than the ones that auditioned for American Idol. But the one thing we are learning about these competition shows is that is as much (if not more so) about the judges than it is about the contestants.
Granted the show can get a lot better after the audition phase, which is a lot like Idol’s, but with a studio audience. But then again, will you still be watching by then?
I hope this show isn’t as much of a costly mistake for Fox as I fear it might be because I really like this network. I guess only time will tell…
