Yesterday, Lionel Richie was all excited to launch his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, and shared several smiling photos before the start of the show. However, mid-way through the concert, he fell ill.
While the 77-year-old was singing Dancing on the Ceiling, he had to sit down because he was feeling dizzy. His saxophonist, Dino Soldo, sat next to him for a while. But then both went on with the show.
The legend got up, walked over to the piano, and performed Three Times a Lady. But after that song, he exited stage right and never returned. After a brief time, Soldo came out and told the audience that Richie was not feeling well and could not continue on with the show.
Today, we are learning more about what happened after the American Idol judge left the stage. According to TMZ, paramedics met him backstage, and then he was taken away in an ambulance to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Since then, it has been radio silence.
The Sing A Song All Night Long Tour’s next date is tomorrow in Chicago. Hopefully, he will feel well enough to do it. If not, shortly after that. Between now and August 14th, they are scheduled to play 26 shows.
