2025 did not end on a happy note for Barry Manilow. The singer was diagnosed with lung cancer, and he underwent surgery to remove it.
The surgery went well, and they got all the cancer. However, the 82-year-old developed pneumonia and spent a week in the ICU, unsure if he would get out of there. But he did.
And he is getting ready to do what he loves: singing for his fans.
However, he told Good Morning America today that everything he has been through with his lungs has affected his voice. It does not sound the same, and he is unsure it ever will. As you can hear, it is lower, softer, and raspier.
He told GMA, “That is really upsetting. Because I don’t want it to stop.” As of now, he is still planning on hitting the road at the end of the month to support his new album, What a Time, which comes out on Friday.
Manilow turns 83, on June 17th. Hopefully, he will get his birthday wish and his voice will return. But if not, I am sure the Fanilows will not mind because he is such a showman!
