Sean Astin is one of the most lovable actors in Hollywood, and he is going to play the most lovable person on Broadway this Christmas season.
The actor will star as Santa Claus in Elf: The Musical at Marquis Theatre starting November 9th, according to Broadway Direct. On January 4th, he will leave the Great White Way and return to the snow-covered streets of the North Pole.
“It has been a lifelong dream to be on Broadway and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the season than by spreading Christmas Cheer as Santa Claus,” the actor wrote. “I’ve been in deep preparation for this role since I was five years old. Now my kids can say ‘Santa, I know him!’”
Elf: The Musical is based on the 2003 holiday classic which starred Will Ferrell. Astin is playing the role that was originated by the late Ed Asner.
Here is a fun fact: Asner and Astin’s mom, Patty Duke, were both Presidents of the Screen Actors Guild. So there is that connection.
