It used to be that to measure how bad a movie really was that if it didn’t go straight to the movie theaters it went to straight-to-DVD it was pretty bad. And if it was really really bad it would got Straight-to-Cable. But now there is a new level of badness, if it is really really really bad it goes Straight-to-Cell Phone. How bad does a movie have to be that the biggest screen it should be seen on is 3.5″ inches? I guess someone will find out when they rent the movie that Jude Law went drag for because according to The Sun his latest flick Rage is going Straight-to-Cell Phone.
Now while it sounds that movie is truly dreadful, the writer/director Sally Potter says made the decision to test out new technologies.

She said: “We don’t know how this is going to work, especially since it is the first ever feature on cellphones. We’re making it up as we go along and taking the plunge and the risk.
“There’s so much terror in the film industry at the moment about piracy, people stealing your idea and making money off of it; and the only way I found of dealing with that is to say, ‘Here, have it.’ If you keep looking over your shoulder, you don’t trailblaze.
“It’s not necessarily a great money spinner. At the moment I’m in debt but the great advantage of being in debt means you’ve got nothing to lose.”

It will be interesting to see if she really didn’t have anything to lose and actually gains some recognition for taking the huge risk.
Forgetting Rage, would you watch a movie on your cell phone?
