I had interviewed Austin Butler a few times long before he played the King. However, I don’t remember him sounding like Elvis Presley. But yesterday, during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, if you closed your eyes, all you heard was the singer.
We were not alone; the press heard it too. Therefore, a reporter asked him if he thinks he still sounds like Elvis. “I don’t even think about it. I don’t think I sound like him still. But, I guess I must because I hear it a lot,” the actor said. “I often liken it to when someone lives in another country for a long time. I have three years where that was my only focus in life. So I am sure there are just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked in that way.”
When Butler became Elvis, he really became him. Hopefully, after the Oscars, he will become Austin Butler again. Because there was nothing wrong with him, I always knew he would be a star.
