A little over a week ago, there was a story in The New York Post that a performance of Company was abruptly cancelled when a cast member threw up on another cast member backstage. The article made it clear it was because said cast member had food poisoning.
Today, we found out that that cast member is Patti LuPone. That is because she posted an update on her condition to clear up the rumors being said about her.
Hi Dolls. I don’t normally do this but since there are a few little shits out there writing false things about Company, here’s the truth: I missed 2 shows with a rotavirus. My toilet can confirm this. Two other actors contracted the same rotavirus. Poor Claybourne [Elder] and his puke-stained flight attendant uniform can confirm, too.
While we’ve had a couple cases of Covid in the company, we’ve had exemplary understudies covering those roles, so the show was able to go on. You should all know that the Jacobs and the production of Company is one of the best tested on Broadway. We’re all getting PCR probed every night.
We currently cannot field a crew of stagehands to run the show safely. Our backstage crew is among the best I have ever worked with and I hope they return to us soon. These people are putting their health at just as much risk as we are onstage, and we ask that you please be patient while everyone gets better, so we can continue our run of Company.
I hope she is better soon because she should be making people feel like shit, and she shouldn’t feel like sh!t because of something that is making her sh!t.
