Tonight at 9p on NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Zoey (Jane Levy) turns 30, so her mom (Mary Steenburgen) wants to throw her a big birthday party. She is hesitant to do it because it is so soon after her father’s death. Eventually, she gives in, and everyone but her is excited about it.
Her co-workers are looking forward to it because they want to party. Mo (Alex Newell) wants to bring the fire marshall that Mo has been crushing on. Simon (John Clarence Stewart) wants to bring his new girlfriend. Then there is Max (Skylar Astin). Zoey hears his heart song to his summer camp crush, and she wonders if their pause should be permanent.
Therefore, she decides to have that talk with him. How will it go? I can’t tell you that.
What I can tell you is that at her party, we get an original song sung by her next door neighbor Aiden (Felix Mallard), who is in a band. A band that has reignited her brother’s (Andrew Leeds) love life with his wife (Alice Lee). So much so that we get a one-take of everyone at her party singing Sixpence None the Richer’s Kiss Me to their dance partners.
As amazing as the new song Crimson Love and Kiss Me are, my favorite song comes earlier in the episode. It is a group number lead by Stewart. I always love when he gets a tune to sing.
Actually, I like when they all sing. Why don’t you? I mean, it is our second Easter in lockdown, so there is nothing to do but to watch Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Therefore, you should do it.
On a serious note, I respect how they handled Zoey not wanting to celebrate her birthday after her dad’s death. Anyone, who lost a parent, can tell you they feel the same way. I know I still do.
