Over the weekend, James Van Der Beek was forced by a tabloid to reveal that he was diagnosed with cancer. Today, People posted an interview with the actor, and he went into more detail about it.
On August 31, 2023, JVDB’s life cahnged. He went in for a colonoscopy because he was having poop problems. When he woke up from anesthesia, the doctor told him it was cancer.
He didn’t know how to react to the news. He decided he would wait until he knew more. After seeing a few doctors and some tests, he found out it was stage 3 colorectal cancer.
Once he knew more about his cancer, it was time to tell his family. His wife, Kimberly, and their six children, Olivia, 14, Joshua, 12, Annabel,10, Emilia, 8, Gwen, 6, and Jeremiah, 3, have been his rock.
Because of that and the cancer, his outlook on life has changed. He is living it and not in fear.
He is also not afraid to try new treatments for his battle. He ended the chat with, “I’m very cautiously optimistic. I’m in a place of healing, my energy levels are great. When I’ve been out of the woods completely for what feels like a responsible amount of time, I’ll circle back and let you know.”
Hopefully, he will be able to tell us soon what treatment works and that he is in remission. This way, he has many more years to spend with his family and friends and doing the job he has a whole new attitude about.
