PETE Doherty is set to make his debut acting appearance in a remake of Carry On Cruising. He’ll star alongside gorgeous brunette babe Kelly Brook, 27. But we hear Kate Moss won’t be too pleased about his film adventure. Pete, 28, top, is back in Blighty after enjoying an unofficial wedding ceremony with Kate, 32, in Thailand. And the pair are set to officially get hitched on January 18 at a London register office. But while she is busy making plans for their big day, the Babyshambles frontman is said to be in "serious" talks about his role in the remake. The 1962 original starred comedy icons Sid James and Kenneth Williams. An insider said last night: "Pete was approached about playing the role of a wannabe rock star who works as a performer on a cruise ship. It’s a rags to riches tale where in the end he gets it all – the lifestyle, the money and the girl. "Kelly has been mentioned as a serious contender to star as one of the dancers on board the vessel, which sails from New York to Hawaii. It will be her character that Pete falls for. "Filming is due to start at the end of this year. But it isn’t 100% clear if Pete will give the go-ahead. As well as Kate being his main priority, he still wants Babyshambles to be a huge part of his life. "Kate has said that should he go for the film role, she will be on set as often as her schedule allows." Kate has always been protective of Pete when it comes to other women. The insider added: "While Kate encourages Pete with everything he does, she would much prefer him to keep his music career as his main focus." For Pete’s sake, we can’t keep up…

Michael Jackson’s sister LaToya had a life-changing experience while shooting new reality TV show "Armed & Famous" last month – she had to deliver a baby. The singer was training as a reserve police officer in Muncie, Indiana, as part of the new show, when she came to the aid of stranded young mother-to-be on December 16. She says, "I helped deliver a baby girl on the freeway. I lifted the woman out of the car and helped take her to a midwife. It changed my life." Jackson is one of five celebrities training as police officers in the new show, which debuts in America on January 10. The other wannabe cops include Jack Osbourne and star Erik Estrada.

MELANIE Griffith has reneged on a promise to tell her life story, according to the ghostwriter, who says she was supposed to help the four-times-wed Hollywood star pen a tell-all. "Two years ago, she promised to do her autobiography with me when she turned 50, which she will be this coming August. In fact, she shook hands on the deal and gave her solemn word," writer Bonnie Robinson tells us. But when she ran into Griffith, who’s battled painkiller addiction, in Aspen, Colo., over the holidays, "I guess all the ‘mood’ elevators have also destroyed her memory, because she told me that she wouldn’t do the book and that she had no recollection of such a promise. Her mood was very bitchy." Griffith’s rep did not respond.

Mariah Carey sleeps in a steam room. The diva says that there’s one room that didn’t appear on that infamous “Cribs” tour of her apartment, and that’s her bedroom, which she has turned into a water-logged chamber to keep her vocal chords humidified. “Literally I’ll have twenty humidifiers around the bed,” Carey told V magazine. “Basically it’s like sleeping in a steam room. The bed is all terry-cloth, the ceiling is pitched so the water can’t fall on my head, and it drips down to my side, and the TV is behind glass.” Carey, who is known for her provocative on-and-off-stage outfits, also discussed her sexy image — and blamed the media. “I think that a lot of women are just trying to live up to the stereotypes and to the standard that’s set on TV and in magazines, which is airbrushed women who weigh 3 pounds,” she said. “And it’s not fair. It’s not easy. But everybody gets really protective of me. They’re, like, ‘Be less sexy.’” She said that if she overdoes the sexy look “it’s not intentional — if you film my body a certain way, it’s gonna look like a certain way. But honestly, I’ve been the same way since I was a little kid. Like, I’m just emulating whatever’s on a magazine. “
