It was 5 years ago today that Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas and tonight at 9p National Geographic Channel is going to tell the story like you have never seen it.
Witness: Katrina is told through personal videos of people who lived through the worst hurricane that ever made landfall in the United States. There is very little narration (just to announce dates) in this 2 hour special, the only voices you will hear will be from the survivors themselves. It begins with the warning that the hurricane is coming their ways and then follows their story after they were asked to evacuate, as the storm hits, what happens to them because they stayed and ends a few days after the hurricane dissipated and the flooding starts to go down.
There were several times during this two hour special that I had chills go down my arms and I never once lost interest what I was watching. I can’t imagine what they went through, but this gives us a little bit more of an understanding what happened before and after Katrina. You see their reactions before, during and after the storm and get to see what they went through during each stage of it. This is an amazing special that everyone should watch because it is told by the people themselves and not through news channels nor politicians. You can’t get anymore real than that, so make sure to watch it tonight on Nat Geo at 9p.
BTW for those of you wondering about the dog at the end of the clip, according to an update at the end of the special Hop survived the storm!
