The first trailer is out for the Freddie Mercury biopic and I just can’t get excited it for it. The movie looks and feels like all the other punk and rock movies about ’70s bands and singers that came before this one. Although, I am probably one of the few people who was obsessed about music history from the genre. Which is why I am so interested in the lead singer of Queen.
I don’t know what I was expecting from Bohemian Rhapsody, but I feel like we should have gotten more than what we got in the trailer. The trailer makes it seems like it is all about the music and not man. I know Queen likes to think they are more than Freddie Mercury, but they are not. There are certain bands that when the voice is silenced, they need to give it up because no one will compare. That is definitely true for this band, no matter how many singers they try to get to replace him with, it does not work.
So as I was bashing this movie, my temper just hit sky high when I went to the trailer’s page, which is Queen’s official one. They wrote this to describe the movie, “Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.” They cannot say that he died of AIDS? Why? It is common knowledge. We have progressed so much since 1991, the stigma is gone. That just infuriates me. I wonder if they will even mention it in the movie? Will he just have cancer? Such BS.
OK, I need to move on now before I completely lose. But I will say that I will be nowhere near the theaters on November 2nd. There is no way in hell I will see this 💩.
Oh and I finally realized my problem with Rami Malek in the role, he looks like smushed down version of Freddie Mercury.
