On November 28, 1981, Natalie Wood went on a boat trip with her husband, Robert Wagner and friend and actor Christopher Walken. The next day her body was found floating in the Pacific Ocean off of Catalina Island. Since then people have wondered if the actress, who was terrified of water after a childhood incident while filming, was murdered by her husband, who it has been said that she got in a fight with before she went missing and was found dead. Back then her death was considered an accident with it being claimed that she accidentally fell off of the boat because she was drunk.
Six years ago, there was some new evidence discovered and LAPD reopened the case. This Saturday at 10p on CBS’s 48 Hours, an investigator gives and update and says that Wagner is now considered a person of interest. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant John Corina tells the show, “I mean, we know now that he was the last person to be with Natalie before she disappeared.” He has yet to grant them an interview since the case was reopened.
The news magazine will speak to a few detectives and her sister Lana Wood. They will also use archival interviews with Wagner and Captain Dennis Davern. Neither Walken nor Wagner have given 48 Hours a comment even though they reached out to them about the episode.
