I don’t know if you know this, but Lorraine Bracco is Italian. I mean, you might have been able to figure that out from her roles in The Goodfellas, The Sopranos, or Rizolli and Isles.
Anyways, her family has ties to Sicily. Therefore, when the actress saw that they are selling houses on the tiny hilltop town of Sambuca di Sicilia for one Euro, she had to buy one. There are just some problems with the 200-year-old home she acquired. It has no electricity, running water, kitchen or bathrooms, and it needs to be gutted due to its deteriorating floors, crumbling walls and dilapidated roof.
“This is a huge undertaking,” said Bracco. “I’m not a contractor. I’m not a decorator. I’m an actress. I’ve never done this before. I have no idea what I’m really getting into! It’s a lot of work, but everything is possible. I believe that. And for one euro, we’ll see!”
It is a big job for anyone to do, so she called up HGTV and asked them for help. She is not going to do it alone. She will have assitance from her contractor Piero, their translator Cynthia, some of her American friends, and the locals of the town.
This is a town whose mayor came up with the idea to sell these homes for cheap in order to encourage families to return to the rural oasis. Bracco has three years to complete the renovation. Something that will be easy to do with HGTV by her side.
We can watch her take on her hardest role to date in My Big Italian Adventure, starting on October 30th. Until then, I will be rewatching her in one my favorite movies Sing. If you have never seen it, it is a must watch.
