I don’t know if you know this, but John Mellencamp is from a small town in Indiana with little pink houses. And no matter how successful he has gotten, he has stayed in his home state.
So, to honor their hometown hero, Indiana University Bloomington had a bronze statue constructed in his likeness.
Livingston Designs Sculpture Studio’s Michael McAuley created the clay statue before it was covered in bronze, and the sculptor used a photo chosen by the singer and taken by his ex-wife, Elaine Irwin, to model the face, according to Indy Star.
The monument was revealed on Friday, and Mellencamp loves it. But who wouldn’t love a statue made to look like them? Well, actually, I think it looks more like the old Randy Travis. But that is me!
