Believe it or not, Frank Sinatra was offered the role of John McLaine in Die Hard. How? Why? What?
Back in 1968, the legendary crooner starred in The Detective, which was based on Roderick Thorp’s 1966 novel. Die Hard is based on the sequel to that book. Therefore, they were obligated to ask Old Blue Eyes to star in the film according to NME.
However, he turned down the role, as did Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, James Caan, Richard Gere, and few others. Eventually, they changed the lead’s name, Bruce Willis accepted the role, and the rest is movie history.
Had any of the others said yes, then we would not have the annual Christmas tradition of watching Die Hard. Well, everyone but me because I still haven’t seen it. I know.
